I think some people overestimate what your man in the street knows about these right wing idioms and icons. Same with the carpenter tv show or whatever it was not so long ago, most people have no idea about most of this shit.

Doesn't mean that shit should be peddled

Have a sibling whose initials are HH, like our very much not Aryan dad. Guess what year he was born in?

1488?
-
• #89281
Haha
-
• #89282
Did lol.
Also, add me to the list of people that had absolutely no idea that those numbers had nazi connotations! Also, the link between the numbers and the letters is pretty strained, it's like a someone read the DaVinci code and got VERY carried away.

Wasn’t even that funny. Edited for less saltiness.

Tells me everything I need to know about lufguss these days.
What, that people are politely discussing it and deciding as a group what to do? The 1488 thing is news to most here I reckon.

This is my 2nd favourite after the Musk one so it stays. But edited the numbers out properly just in case it offends anyone or is seen as some sort of rallying cry.

Must be honest, I expected more outrage about the Ade Adepitan/disability joke
-

I find that baffling. A ⅓ of the content here is users having woke-offs.

Where are you all seeing 1488? Has the original post been changed already?
I know about the '88' thing but I've never heard of 1488 before.
-
• #89293
Wait what? 88 is bad?
I sign off most of my chats, including work chats, as 88 and I’m sure the vast majority of people who do so are not fascists.
-
• #89294
If 88 is bad then someone needs to tell China... 666
-
• #89295
Well I’m going to carry on so French-Croatian Squid to anyone who objects.

Context is important. If your table number is 88, doesn't mean the restaurant secretly loves Hitler.
If it's tattooed on someone's neck, next to some appropriated Norse symbology, then it probably does.
-
• #89297
To be fair, a lot of people in China openly love Hitler. One of my colleagues said that he was very handsome, albeit a bit short.
-
• #89298
handsome
Absolutely nuts.
Dat young Stalin tho.
-
• #89299
Given the growing similarities between Nazi Germany and the current Chinese government, it's not a total surprise.
In honesty a lot of people love a dictator as long as the boot isn't on their neck. If it's on the neck of some local "other" or that of another country, it's all good. Even better if it's in the past so you can make some sort of bullshit argument about historical perspective to justify admiration of some of the biggest mass murderers of all time.

Just to be clear, my swoon was not an endorsement of Stalin as a criminal or civil servant.
But if the photos are anything to go by, becoming a bureaucrat didn't do him any favours in the weight department.
So that's why someone has blacked over the last 8.
I disagree that it's well know, and that the inference would be an antisemitic global financiers trope - surely it's just emphasising the trolling nature of that r/.
Will think on it and make a call later - unless people genuinely find it offensive and hurtful?
