  • I had 3 cans of Illy filter coffee delivered by mistake and then refunded. Not gonna waste 750g of coffee so have been using it in the morning. It’s too fine for the V60 so have switched to the Aeropress and have been experimenting with the recipe since I’ve got coffee to burn.

So to get a decent cup of filter, I’m currently on ~17.5g coffee to a full Aeropress and a 5 minute steep. Preheat Aeropress, stir the grounds in well after adding most of the water. Top up 25ml or so in the cup to 250ml. That seems to reach the strength and mouth feel I’m looking for in a cup of filter.

Similar strength cup from the V60 needs around 14-15g coffee so I’m still of the opinion that the Aeropress is very heavy on coffee usage. That’s ~88g coffee per litre. Also of the opinion that the popular short steep times do not extract enough with Aeropress.

It depends a lot on the beans, I'm currently doing 16.5g for 250ml of a filter roast from Dark Arts
