    It's exactly ^ this ^ type of hassle that has me stuck on 10-speed friction-shifting!

    It looks like the cheaper Sram 11-speed mountain bike cassettes are only compatible with 11-speed road free hubs, strangely enough.

    The Shimano mountain bike (and HG700) cassettes biggest cog is offset towards the spokes, so they can fit that extra cog on there. Doesn't look like anyone else does it.

    I think I might raid the spare parts box and return to 10 speed, seems to have been a price hike on 11 speed kit nowadays (or there's enough demand that nothing is on offer).
