videos from new media reviewers really make you appreciate how "reviewing" is a skill, and not one which you always develop from "doing something a lot"
they have the energy of a c grade essay paper, describes a variety of situations, functions and issues, but never really unpacks them.

Depends what the ‘weight’ is doing.
If you’re interested in the inertia issue it’s covered here. In part 1 of three.

Having experimented with;
- 650b on an aggressive geo road frame
- 700c on a ‘gravel’ frame
Both with large tyres and guards. On rough-road type terrain (not rocky singletrack) I think 650b is nicer. I guess I’m really after something that feels quite road-like.
Of course there’s subjectivity. I ride with quite a lot of weight over the front, am only one height(!), have a history riding track bikes etc. All this probably influences the geo and handling I prefer ... preferences will vary.
My actual off-road bike is quite different (a cross bike with 44mm, 700c wheels).

This could stop if bike media would be honest about their views on these new standards. But then not enough of us pay for independent journalism so they have to say what the brands want them too to survive. Then newbs can’t get an honest opinion and prop up the sham.

Amazing
So why not just go for the existing 15mm MTB axle diameter?
Basically, because it’s overkill. Using the larger 15×110 would add weight compared to a 12×110 axle. And a narrower 12mm thru axle allows for smaller diameter hub shells, which are more aerodynamic…and also lighter.

This is a reminder that journalism is supposed to be the justice system in these scenarios. When it gets eroded by social media, we end up drowning in propaganda. It’s very sad. But our fault.

Yeah this MTB tech will never catch on. Just like disc brakes, clutched mechs and 1x, tubeless...
It's in everyone's interest except the buyers to turn gravel bikes into equivalent MTB money pits

YAL pls, I'm already devastated about how un-aero my front hubs are :'(
-
• #16114
Aerodynamic hubs - this is important though! There should only be 20 spokes connected to any gravel bike hub so this is genuine advancement
-
• #16115
This what happens when people buy 2.2 tyres and 11-50 cassettes for their gravel bikes.

It'll be fine.
Same rear hubs as mtb boost, option to use axle adapters/different end caps with mtb front hubs. -

I get heel rub on the chainstays of my 135mm rear as it is

WTAF is this road boost shit. Do bike industries think we're all just bored out of our minds and willing to go along with any old nonsense just to distract ourselves from reality?
-
• #16120
My gravel bike already has 11-42 cassette and 415mm chainstays and 2.2" tyres, I don't need boost as well. Serves no purpose.
-
• #16121
Granted the builder did have to make a chainstay bending jig and destroyed countless chainstays in the process of building...
