taller plant, or hanging plant, or have both a hanging plant (from the bit that sticks into the extension) as well as a regular plant, will give some parallax motion as you move in relation to them (probably wrong term but I'm sure you know what I mean). Stained glass seems too fussy.
Make a little mobile if you're into crafting. -
another two ideas:
ant farm, for lols
this is what I would actually do... something with a lot of fishing line of different colors under tension and so densely woven that it would be hard to see through, but still transmit some ambient light in an interesting manner. I would have so much fun with this.

The hard part would be the mounting points for the strings to loop around. I think you could use brass tubes to make an elongated cube that fits in there nicely and then construct the string sculpture outside the space and then slide the entire thing. 1 inch is probably too big, but this sort of stuff:

Can anyone help with what we can do with this odd little space?
It used to be a small window on the exterior kitchen wall and is now in between the kitchen and extension (we didn’t put in a steel beam so there is a supporting wall).
The small cactus doesn’t really work! There are some nice lines the other side. Was toying with idea of some kind of coloured glass but have bit of a mind blank.
