Another police officer, Jeffrey Smith, has committed suicide. He was a D.C. Police officer.

He was a Police officer.
Good then.

Really hope I’m misunderstanding here

• #16057
What was the reason for the suicide?

This not the place for your hatred of the police.

Classy.

As an American, I beg to differ - The Police are the cudgel the US government uses against its people, and that cannot be separated from our politics.

Sorry, probably not popular here but not much sympathy for the police here either. I wouldn't wish death on many people, or celebrate it though.

This is fine.

There is an interesting You're Wrong about: where they discuss the EC.

Worth a listen as they have a guest who does a good job of explaining the history.
In particular it highlights how our concept of representation has changed.

That you're American is besides the point; rejoicing in the suicide of someone that you know nothing about is pretty shit.

Agree with this, but hard to feel sympathy

has committed suicide
Somewhat outdated language. Suicide isn't a crime that people commit anymore.

You're not.

I'm not sure that this represents a change, more formalises a (rarely?)/not-ever-used part of the electoral college system.
As is discussed in that twitter thread, and explained by GCP Grey in either this or one of his other videos (it has been some time since I watched them).

It's fun how they start an article about an anti-Semitic fascist who seems to have supported the attempted coup earlier this month by comparing her to AOC. Wowsers.
This. Cheap shot. Scumbag move.
Even acknowledging party differences, framing those individuals as equivalent is damaging for AOC.

Says more about you than them.
I understand people hating the police as an organisation etc, but taking it down to individuals like this isn’t on.

Yes.

So was the police officer one of the protestors or one of those stationed at the Capitol? Was he facing charges, did he aid the protestors? Maybe I didn't read the story carefully enough but I couldn't find much detail in there, I've come away with more questions than I got answers...
-
• #16074
what i got was he was one of the on duty guys who has been effected by what happened. there wasn't a lot of detail in there.
-
• #16075
That's what I was asking too.
Did he have guilt for say let them in? Or just ptsd? Or horror of it all?
Isn’t the NY magazine the US equivalent of the Spectator?
