Update on the future of the Ride London Surrey (?) 100 event: https://road.cc/content/news/50km-ride-replace-ridelondon-surrey-100-mile-sportive-278057
From memory, "managing" the impact of future sports cycling events was in an action from surrey council's cycling strategy / action plan. They have run a public consultation in which over half of surrey residents who responded do not object to the continuation of the ride100, but the council are going to get rid of it anyway.
Sounds like a good opportunity for another home county to step in (Essex?) but the hills will be missed.

Cancelled for 2021 also https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-55858788

Sorry for all the SW peeps but Surrey is the most overrated county for cycling so it's no loss. Kent is better. Essex would be grand but NO WAY would they allow it.
RideBarnet100 has a nice ring to it.

Wash your mouth out or you're not welcome on the post covid 5 hills.
Essex could be great on closed roads though.

Fair

• #2533
Bah, still want to do it just so I can get the London Classics medal.
-
• #2534
Should definitely do it in Kent and send all the charity riders down Toys Hill in the rain

No legacy like Putney High Street Olympic legacy.

Best comment I've read in a long time

It's off to Essex
-
• #2538
£89! Was it that much previously?!
-
• #2539
No it was more like £50 or £60 iirc
-
• #2540
79 quid. What on earth...
I stand corrected. This was what they were asking before the pandemic shut it down?
-
• #2541
Only want to do it to finish off the London Classics (https://www.thelondonclassics.co.uk/) and get that medal.
£89 is steep though, but then I paid ~£50 for London Marathon and Swim Serpentine was ~£60.
Annoying timing though as we'd probably be away for that half term and cutting short a family holiday by a day just to do a cycle ride is a bit selfish. Will probably try and get an entry though.

Entries open now.

Cheers I've signed up

Also got a place. Had a spot on the 2020 version, but that got covided. Be interesting to see if another global calamity will arise to stop me from doing it next year.

• #2545
Is anyone on here going to tut loudly at me if I jump the fence and ride it without paying the £90?
-
• #2546
You might get a tut in Surrey. But in Essex you'll get a oi ..wankahh.
-
• #2547
Interesting... foreigners not welcome for Ride London 2022 at this time
-
• #2548
Signed up with some people from work going too.
Where are they gonna find hills in Essex?! -
• #2549
They’ll buy that Marble Arch one from Westminster council

Where are they gonna find hills in Essex?!
Probably around the Saffron Walden area. Elmdon, Langley, Thaxted, Tilty, etc. That's near the high point at 147m (near Chrishill).
Will be familiar territory if they do go there for anyone who has done any of the Audaxes from the 'Uts at Henham/Ugley.
There was some twitter stink from a bunch of srsbsns dudes who submitted entries as women and all got places, where they didn’t get placeswith their real man mannish names.
I think the organisers have stated that it wasn’t random and that white middle aged men were at the back of the queue. And something something woke brigade or something
Here we go
