• A Scots pal of mine is an ardent independence advocate, and a life-long left-winger. He’s left Labour behind and is fully behind the SNP, but that means that he’s had to get behind a collective that includes some pretty right-wing types, which really doesn’t sit well with me.

I don’t know enough about the make-up of the SNP, but we all know what comes to mind if you think of English Nationalists. Where does the SNP sit in the political spectrum?

  • Left of centre social democrats.

English nationalism and Scottish nationalism are polar opposites to one another.

English nationalism = where you from.

Scottish nationalism = where you at.

This is evidenced by the amount of diversity you’ll see at Indy events. Mosque groups hanging out with Synagogue groups hanging out with queer groups hanging out with Ghudwara groups.

All getting screamed at and spat at by English nationalists - they same types rioting in George square, throwing bottles, defending statues.

Side note - SNP leader never called me a terrorist / bank robber / watermelon smile pickney.
