  • I thought I’d wiped the hollandaise off my nostrils...

  • I think more fettling with exactly where the shift is on the cable pull, I can feel a stop on the lever further back, think I’ve nailed it. But yep prob I’ll try another lever with a more definite end clunk to the pull.

  • Eggs Benedict is veery addictive, even if you think you’re being discreet, everybody knows.

  • I did a triple version of this, was a simple but great bike to run around on

  • O rly?! Innsersting, I can haz triples lying around too. Also a three speed fw that fits the gap! Just need to get hold of the remover before I try it.

Just tried riding it somewhere since going 2x2, it’s great fun. Top gear is a little bit low, would have been great at 42x16, now even more gutted bikemonger didn’t hold that fw I waited months for.

  • Yeah, robbed at knifepoint unfortunately, London life eh

  • I've always wanted to build something with a 3 spd freewheel.

  • It’s a really old one, hardly used. Tempting to try. Quality not comparable to a solid White Ind, the new DUO makes an even better sound than the single.

  • Only thing I don't like about the duo is weight. Used one on my cross bike but there's a fair chunk of metal between the two "sprockets" that I feel like it could do without

Wait I thought my fw was calls DOS not DUO. Maybe it's something different?

  • PICTURES!

  • Yes you’re right, DOS not DUO. Not sure what duo is but it is something else.

  • Four single speeds.

@psg1ben you’re right about weight, from having it single with a tensioner to this, two mechs, two shifters, cables, cogs & rings, it’s got a fair bit heavier.

  • Ah, yeah. Duo is what Middleburn call these very cranksets.

  • A DUO DOS duet

  • Original pedals I had on there were UNOs... weird

  • Tres cool

  • rep, this is great

  • Ta!

  • Bikemonger just got stock of a 16/19 DOS fw, yay *finally*… So losing a tooth to make bigger upper gears on my 4 speed crosscountry beastie, will bring your two-speed & SS cog and wheel back @cake !

Also fitted a naff / v cool Milremo spoke protector / dorky pieplate thingy (I can’t limit the down/inward shift sufficiently with the pull set as it is… ie against the limiter on the outboard gear). Seems to allow me to shift straight back onto the inboard cog if I do overshift. Previously was scraping bits of ano out of the hub :/

Off for an afternoon on the SDW tomorrow, will see if my stupid gearing idea is OK ish there, ready to walk up the odd section no doubt.

  • Bit more even spread now as 29x16 is nearer 42x19, and the crusing gear a little more productive
