FWIW I was quoted £800 for a non-MDF alcove cupboard, two doors, full height. That's proper wood but doesn't include paint, which suits me.
Some other joker quoted over a grand to retrofit some off the shelf wardrobe, one of those plasticky looking things you get from places who advertise during Grand Designs and are called James Sandersen and have a woman tenderly stroking her wardrobe. I want to see knots and paintbrush streaks

I paid about £1,500 (plus about another £450 for painting) for two alcove cupboards (either side of a chimney breast) and six shelves (3 each side). Think the shelves were about £120 each, cupboards were the rest. Done by these https://www.lahartcarpentry.co.uk/
Any recommendations on bespoke shelving/cupboard carpenters in East London?
Or any guidance on costs? Last time we had building work done I asked for a quote on some basic mdf shelves in a couple of alcoves and £700 seemed expensive, but maybe that’s what I need to budget for.
It would be to fill two alcoves either side of where a wall was removed with shelves, a large wardrobe/shelving in one room and some shelves/wall cupboard in another. Maybe some built-in cupboards around the chimney breast in a loft extension too.
