  • I have a bullitt with bafang and a riese & muller multicharger (which I need to sell)

  • Spec & £ for the multicharger?

  • I bought a test ride bike from Kinetics that had done 30 miles, he is a dealer so I became the 'first owner'. I have done about. 250 miles on it max.

Nexus 8 hub, comes with racks and panniers (these are HUGE and really well designed) and an adult carrier kit (seat, tandem style bar, foot pegs). Comes with standard charger and all documentation and keys.

    £2000

  • Selling the Bullitt? Are you getting a different bike?

  • ah no, holding onto that for now but thinking about replacing it with EP8 bullitt at some point, if they were available now I could have done the 'swap' quickly but the waiting period is looooooong.

  • Having compared Bosch and bafang side by side I reckon bafang Better for cargo anyway, loads more torque. You’d probably regret the “upgrade”

  • you reckon? even with 'high' torque EP8? Or the gen 4 Bosch stuff?

My fear is bafang failing on me, its a bike we (as a family) cannot live without, primary mode of kid transport.

  • Bafang is 160nm of torque, almost twice as much as Bosch or shimano. I’ve been riding a gen 4 Bosch recently and my colleague has an old bafang mid drive bolted onto an old jump bike, literally cruises away from me up hill. All the bafang bits seem to be readily available if they need parts as well.

  • fair enough, I will hold fire!

My bafang is only 350w mind.

  • Battery size? Is it belt drive?

  • Are you looking about twice a much weight on the motor for bafang? (Although I guess this becomes pretty insignificant compared to torque gained)

I’m now considering a manual bullit conversion. Want to try a Bosch machine as soon as I can

  • Nice one. Could either of these replace a car you think?

I'm planning on ditching mine, and although it seems that the Tern GSD is the model to beat, 4 grand seems a hell of a lot for someone like me with no e-cargo experience. Just found the Radwagon which seems super affordable at under 2k with all accessories.

  • chain, I think PowerTube comes only in one power/size. It can take two batteries tho.

  • Could either of these replace a car you think?

This man explains it well IMO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRUXhYcFWUk&ab_channel=TheteamatCAL

I would say 100% yes in London. I hire ZipCar when I need to something long haul.

  • Cheers. After another belt drive effort.

  • My colleague's wife had a bad car accident a few years ago and hasn't been able to get back on a bike since, she thence sold her road bike and is currently bikeless.

She's keen to try an e-bike as a way of getting back out so I was hoping for a few suggestions of what might suit her.

They live in the countryside so rides would be country roads (some poor surfaces) and a smathering of hills too.

The nature of her injuries has her very keen to have a low top tube or even step through although I suspect anything that falls into this category will have horrible handling and weigh a tonne as they'll be more city bikes than anything else? I think she has had a few efforts at her road bike before selling it and the top tube criteria is more of a "would be nice" rather than a necessity...

Geometry wise she'd like to be sat up a little bit more but again, I'm conscious she used to cycle a bit and don't want to recommend something that will be horrible to ride and she'll end up hating once the novelty of getting out on it at all wears off...

My best suggestion is either something like Specialized Vado SL

or Cannondale Topstone Neo Carbon Lefty

Is there any use looking towards anything like the Specialized Como for countryside spins? Also worth noting her husband is a keen cyclist and will be riding with her so trying to aim for something that would keep the two of them as closely matched as possible (probably poorly described but what I mean is that if the step through city bike type efforts are going to be laborious on a countryside spin it'll just result in both of them having a bad time)

  • is that if the step through city bike type efforts are going to be laborious on a countryside spin it'll just result in both of them having a bad time)

why do you think that is going to be the case.??

my partner has ridden bikes of all types all her life but loves her step through city bike for rides in the city, along the South downs way etc etc.

do not dismiss them out of hand.

one city bike atop Firle Beacon

  • Good to hear! It may well be my own prejudice towards something more gravel oriented so I'm keen for feedback like this to pass on to them!

  • Nexus 8 Hub

Interesting to choice... was it set up with a derailleur or an Enviolo originally?

  • Having compared Bosch and bafang side by side I reckon bafang Better for cargo anyway, loads more torque. You’d probably regret the “upgrade”

Gen 4 Cargoline is absolutely amazing.

  • nah this was official R&M spec

  • But compared to a 750 or 1000 watt bafang setup with 160nm+ - gen 4 is 85nm and 250W ?

Bosch systems are smooth, sleek, neatly integrated, excellent quality. Bafang stuff feels cheaper, but it’s more powerful and more adaptable because you can change bits around/plug them in and adjust settings.

95% people better off with a Bosch but for the 5% that want the power and the ability to fettle bafang is a great system.

  • I couldn’t afford an ebike with the performance I wanted, so took a punt on a kit from electroncycles and fitted it to a 10 year old full sus Trek. CYC mid drive with a 52V 1700ah battery, stock controller died so I upgraded to a BAC 855 , thumb throttle and torque sensor, got me places I haven’t been for years on a bike. Always a trade off between power and range, great fun however you use it.

  • nah this was official R&M spec

Whoa. Been an R&M dealer for going on five years and I totally forgot GT City was even a thing.
