  • Just sits on the ground, but I had to anchor it to the garden wall to keep it nice and square.
Here is a rough and ready design file with the scale of 1px = 1cm

  • here's a clear plastic frame around the base socket which isn't covered by the clip on frame.

I have Schneider Screwless Flat around the house and they are the same.
    Very disappointing but hey.

Should have stuck with the 99p Screwfix special!!!

  • Cracked and generally shit exterior sills. What compound is a good filler? Toupret? If so, which one?

  • Yep, that’s what I meant. I “made” my kitchen table that way, bought that really cheap steel table frame from ikea and screwed a painted/varnished piece of Baltic Birch on top.

  • In your part of the world I'd head out to car boot sales in summer.

We picked up 3 school benches which are nice, but now use an old gym locker bench.

  • I'll probably make one tbh. Will see what happens when I plan the changes to the garden in the spring.

  • We found sun a real pain to navigate, as our garden gets tonnes. So worth thinking about that with baby skin when you do your planning.

  • I always get the tool insurance add on so as long as they're in a locked building they're covered with guaranteed same day replacement.

  • Yeah - we've got a sort of pergola with shade and a large rectangular folding umbrella in the back garden so we're sorted there. Front ends up in the share of the houses by late afternoon so lots of kids out there in the evenings in summer.

  • I think Murex is the default these days. Fibrex is very useful if you need some additional strength. They all have their different purposes but Murex and Fibrex are the most 'general'.

  • Grazie. I am 99% sure is just a load of cosmetic cracking. Will take a closer look once the windows have been replaced (I think the knackered old windows are half the cause). Most of our funds have gone into the new roof and windows so now looking at what I can reasonably do myself. The other render cracks on the main exterior walls I'll likely get someone in for as me up a ladder trying to rake out a crack and man handle a pot of filler is a recipe for disaster. The window sills I can likely do a lot of from inside and at least balance stuff on the sills themselves while working.

Just need a big fuck off ladder though.

  • Lockdown has definitely brought out your feminine side. :)

  • My hairs just a bit different.

  • I have 5 internal doors arriving tomorrow that need hanging. Every one needs some trimming.

I reckon I can do this myself. What are the pitfalls? How will I fuck it up?

  • Hanging doors is a process.

Every chippy has a slightly different process that works for them.

I seem to remember you did the liners a while back. If they are new doors in new liners then it shouldn't be too bad, no offence, but I'm assuming you've put the door liners in plumb and straight. If the door liners are wobbly or not plumb it gets harder. To give you an idea I can do ~ 5 new doors a day if they're new doors in new liners/frames this drops to 1 - 3 (3 at a big push if its plain sailing) doors a day this is not just because it's trickier but there is always more to do (for example removing door stops and getting them in a state that they can be repainted).

I hope you have a plunge saw, because they pay for themselves when hanging doors.

If you want to go ahead and do it yourself I can walk you through my process.

  • Saloon doors everywhere

  • I have a track saw you can borrow if you want

  • People with nothing to hide don't need doors.

  • Yes please.

New liners are in. PLUMB AS FUCK. And they are rebated so no pishing about with door stops.

  • Ok it'll take some typing I'll get on it in the morning.

  • Thx.
Or if there are good videos for me to watch send me one of those?

  • I'll have a look are they fire doors?

  • I reckon I can do this myself.

    I commend your bravery.

It’s a tricky job. My only real tip (Bobbo will do a much better job of providing advice) is that you can’t really underestimate how little you can take off and it make a lot of difference.
Or to put it simply: take off way less than you think in between offering it up to the frame. 5mm too much on an inpatient cut can definitely fuck it up.

  • Nah, 35mm solid oak 4 panel doors
