what are they going on?

I’ve gone for a Marino. Put the order in a week ago and still haven’t gotten confirmation but I’m not alone in this judging by forums and instagram comments. Would be good to have an idea of fork a-c before finalising the geo.

Yup. All the UK outlets are inaccessible now, hadn’t realised how not being able to buy from wiggle/chainreaction/evans etc would be so annoying. Found some 29” rims I wanted on crc and they doubled in price when I changed country to Sweden. So it’s German webshops ftw from now on. Sweden is tiny so no real domestic options that can compete.

Edit: it increases trail, thereby making steering less twitchy on a slack HT angle frame, as I understand it. Sounds logical. I should buy that fork, shouldn’t I?

Yeah that’s my conclusion as well. Me being old and crap at mtb isn’t going away by a few mm of offset here or there.

Bought the forks. Threw in some
mavic 30mm i.d. rims and a pair of SLX hubs and still nowhere near RRP for the forks alone.

This reminds me, anyone interested in a Manitou Magnum Pro Fork? 15mm, 29+, 100mm, tapered (uncut), lowers are in good condition (various scratches from branches), uppers are great. I ran 29x3 in them with plenty of room to spare.

Honestly, you will not notice any difference in steering at all by using a fork with a slightly different offset.

I use lyriks with a 37mm offset on a bike that was originally specced with 42mm or 44mm offset forks and there is zero detectable difference once riding.

Thanks for the reassurance. Yeah on a mtb I can’t imagine anyone really noticing now that I’ve thought about it. On a road bike yes but not bouncing about in the woods. At least not at my minimal skill level!

Fork offset will affect your nose manual position, if that's your thing

I realise I may have installed fear then bolted. As above, you’ll be fine.

put back the old folding nevgal and lighter inner tube on the lobster and saved 300g from the front wheel 2.0kg -> 1.7kg ( is that still quite heavy ? )* will see if the front end has that old magic back in an hour or so when i head out for a ride

*i saw a whole bike yesterday in the weight weenies thread that weighed almost the same as my front wheel

ha funnily enough was going to edit my post to mention ( inc. probably a few hundred grams of eppings finest muddy clay ) had to change the tyre on the patio as the rim is caked in dry mud from my last venture

but now my chain is eating away at my front mech

it's a limit screw issue but i'm fucked if i know which one and which way to turn it
