Yes! This was my first thought when I realised how involved taking it apart was.
I'd thought I could fix something onto the body that physically stops the screen opening past a certain point.
But not quite sure on the best way to achieve this. Some double sided sticky tape and some sort of rigid piece to limit the movement maybe?!
Have googled a bit in the hope to find someone else doing the same but haven't found anything yet.Dont care about its appearance, this macbook never leaves home. If I could bodge it and get even another couple years out it I'd be happy.
Edit - just realised that if I used some fibre tape and attached it in a certain way, that alone could maybe solve it. Will give it a test run with some parcel tape just now
I've got a mid 2013 mac book air, owned from new.
The screen hinge has broken after my 2 year old son sat on it... It now flops open to near 180 degrees rather than coming to the hard stop it had before.
I've looked at ifixit teardowns and the hinge replacement looks very involved.
Has anyone else had the hinge go like this and found any other solution other than spending 2 hours taking it apart?
Battery charge cycle is over 1600, I was going to replace the battery as other than the hinge it still functions perfectly. Would be a shame to ditch it now.
Any clever ideas for a fix?
