This is some serious fucking bullshit right here!! I’ve just been reading up in the new terms and conditions which yet again are making ebay an even shittier place to sell stuff. They say fees have reduced for some people but certainly not for the average private seller.
You used to pay 10% to ebay and 2.9% to paypal. So if you sold an item for £30 you would get £26.13. Obvs you have to the pay postage.
Now you pay ebay a fee of 12.8% plus a flat fee of 30p per transaction which would leave you with £25.86.
They’ve also said that 30p transaction fee is payable even if an item is cancelled!
And the final nail in the coffin is that if you are seen to be divulging your contact info to an interested buyer, they will charge you their fee! So you have a 1k bike for sale, ebay thinks you’re trying to be sneaky and takes £128 from your bank account. Fucking ludicrous.
Consider also that now all the payments are going directly through your bank account; there’s going to be a huge delay with everything from getting paid to getting refunded.
And just one last scenario. Say some cunt buys something from you with no intention of going through with it. You buy the postage via ebay/royal mail and then the buyer cancels.
You’re now down 30p straight away AND you have to wait two weeks to get your postage refunded.... -

I sold an item yesterday but the buyer has yet to pay - how long do I have to wait before cancelling the sale and re-listing it?
-
• #2054
Strictly speaking you should give them 3 days. You don’t really want to cancel without going through the ‘payment not received’ ebay process as it’ll work against you. I find the vast majority pay within a day or two.
-
• #2055
Cheers, I'll wait until Saturday then.
-
• #2056
I have a zero per cent success rate of being paid for an item at any time after the end of an auction beyond 'immediately'.

^What Howard Says
I now set everything to 'buyer has to pay immediately with BIN'

That might be the final nail in the coffin for me selling on eBay.
I don’t know if it’s my lack of willingness to do all the ‘best offer’ stuff or what but I’m definitely not seeing the same kind of activity on anything I list as I was even a year or so ago.
To be honest,a couple things I’ve sold recently have gone for so little that I’ve ended up just sending the money back. I’m sitting with 2 negative feedbacks because of it but I can’t even bring myself to care.
I used to sit and write individual feedback comments for everything I bought too, now I just wait till I have a good number of items awaiting feedback and copy paste the same thing in them all. Seems to have lost its meaning a bit.

My gf sold some jeans on ebay before xmas - they inevitably got held up in the xmas post, so after a month of them not being delivered we refunded the buyer who was pestering us a bit.
Now I see the jeans have been delivered after all (although very late).
Can i get the jeans back, or the money, or do I just suck this one up? -
• #2060
You message them politely asking to pay but if they don't, there's nothing you can do, stupidly.
We had this on here a few weeks back, someone else had the same problem. -

Ah right.
thanks for the info. -

I've had two sales in the last week using this new 'straight to bank account' method.
The first was OK; sold a seatpost on Tuesday lunch time; by Thursday lunch time the money was in my account.
Sold a stem Thursday lunch time; the money has only just got to my account today (Monday lunch time) which suggests that the bank of ebay doesn't work weekends!
The time from ebay sending it to it actually showing up in my account was quite quick, maybe three hours (quick by bank standards) but the delay seemed to be entirely ebay.
So as summarised before, I paid higher fees than I would have done with the PayPal system and instead of having the money instantly available I had to wait four days.
So basically fuck ebay. -

I can't seem to register on markatplaats without a phone number and it doesn't have the UK prefix as an option... is this new? Any work arounds?

Really stupid - have they explained why they have gone this route?
Presume it was too much fraud / bullshit with people closing accounts or hacking and buying stuff etc - I mean the plus side is that if it’s direct through the bank are you offered more buying protections?!I’ve slowly lost any kind of desire to shift anything on there and make a point of only selling items when they have a £1 listing weekend - and as a fuck you to eBay just create 20 listings to edit later on if I decide there’s something I’d like to sell.
Once I got pulled up on this by ebays invoicing - and they’d charged me a final value fee on something despite it being listed during the promotion and after talking in the live chat they said it was because it was edited from its original information. But after arguing who cares it was still listed during the promotion they relented and left me off.
But the increasing in fees / delay in receiving money combined with all the idiots and low balling really destroys any incentive to sell on there.

have they explained why they have gone this route?
They've tried to justify it by making out like it's a huge advantage to sellers but in actual fact it's more likely that they just didn't like PayPal making so much money from fees!
They've tried to play it up and even said 'most sellers will pay the same or less fees than before' but I think that's likely total bullshit. It's certainly not cheaper for the likes of you or I.
As a long time seller I've been getting more and more pissed off with their tactics but this is really making me not want to bother.
I just wish there was some genuinely decent competition and ebay would have to wind their neck in a bit but they really have the monopoly. I've tried selling the same items on Facebook but I don't even get so much as a sniff; I think I sold one Castelli jersey on there in the space of about 5 years.
Luckily I've not had to deal with any lost items or cancellations yet but to be honest I'm fucking dreading it; sure as shit ebay won't take four days to pull the buyers funds from your bank account at the slightest suggestion of a item not as described or non-delivery... -

Bit of a trawl back through time, but I lost my £1.54 on a tyre I couldn't collect and the seller wouldn't allow me to arrange a courier for.
Such heartache for such a small loss. Wouldn't recommend

I think in the last year or so eBay has become steadily more like modern Amazon: filled to the brim with pro sellers in China instead of normal people and small local businesses. It’s cheaper than Amazon so it has its pros, but it’s a damn shame.
-

Pro tip: there's an option in each search to set the seller type to "Private". Filters out all the Chinese crap leaving the second-hand local good stuff.
Edit: maybe desktop only?

this new 'straight to bank account' method.
Thankfully I haven't been subjected to this on both my ebay accounts. I have been having a good old clearout via Ebay over the last 2 years and it would shaft me. I wonder why it hasn't been applied to all customers?

Good shout, thanks!

Genius.
I pretty much gave up looking at motorbikes on eBay because there was just page upon page of pre-reg and demonstrator Harleys, Ducatis and Triumphs from the local dealers with the odd genuine ‘used’ bike amongst them.

No ebay but ali.
Has anyone had something that tracking said was delivered, but wasn't?
It's would be in a box maybe 4-5" long. The only thing that worries me is our kid has been going through a phase of putting things in the bin. Not to mention loves posting things back out of the letterbox.

I’ve had some carbon track wheels on ebay for a few months now; tons of watchers but no major interest. The advert very clearly states cash on collection only; no couriers etc.
I am in Bristol.
Today I get a half decent offer from someone in Glasgow with a feedback score of 8!
If I accept I think the chances of them saying “Oh sorry; didn’t realise you couldn’t post” are probably about 99.5%
Tempted to just ignore it; what would you do? -
• #2074
what would you do?
Find a box?

I recall buying a wheel on ebay many years ago, the guy just bubble wrapped it and stuck a label on it. None of this fancy cardboard malarkey
Edit - posted here as seemed more relevant thread
