  • Recently set up a trainer tire on a spare wheel I had knocking around and the indexing is waaaaay out when I use it on either of my bikes.

With the SRAM mech on one bike, I have to wind the barrel adjuster in about 3 full turns to get it running smoothly. On my other bike, which I'd rather use on the turbo, I'm running an Ultegra R8000 RD that has a dodgy barrel adjuster where it's not really practical to have to adjust it more than a couple of clicks at a time (another problem for another day).

Is there a solution to this other than having to adjust the cable tension every time I put the bike on the trainer? My motivation to ride the turbo is lacking at the best of times, never mind if I need to faff around every time I want to swap wheels.

  • How often are you using the trainer ??

Just leave your usual wheel on if the answer is not a huge amount. No messing with indexing.

  • I guess this probably the simplest answer. I don't ride on the trainer much, but had still noticed that my rear tire was wearing quicker than the front.

@chez_jay - I'm having to tighten the barrel adjuster, so that wouldn't work.
