Not sure yet if this effect will help fish stocks.
Big industrial UK ships fishing for animal feed (wasteful effect of capitalism with lack of regulation and I say that as a meat eater, and untraceable ATM when you go shop) and fish UK didn't eat anyway may not be affected.
It was the dolphins of course that manipulated us into helping the fish ;)

Amazing. Goverment advice to companies trying to sell to sell to Europe?
Be European
Wow. Just. Wow.

How did the UK end up with Honda, Toyota and Nissan* factories?
The Japanese Goverment realised the only way to avoid the EU imposing import tariffs was 'local' production. Then it was a reverse auction to see which country in the EU offered the best package of incentives.
I'm* guessing that a whole raft of smaller Japanese firms who we don't hear about followed along. -

Sorry. I'm not clear on the point you are trying to make.

Yet another thing that highlights how absurd this all is.

At a guess, and knowing some of the twisted workings of mespilus' mind, he's comparing the situation of UK companies being advised to set up shop in the UK with that of Japanese car companies who had previously been advised to set up shop in the EU and who back then chose the UK.

UK SME <> Japanese multi-nationals
They think differently and Japanese multi-nationals have better access to Government ministers.
Also UK SMEs account for a considerably larger proportion of the economy and considerably far more jobs than Japanese multi-nationals. So....who cares about Nissan?

Sainsbury's are closing all of their fish, meat and deli counters, though.

Ah - I hadn't seen that and haven't been in in a long time. Very disappointing that they're doing that.

@Aroogah - I was just about to post that same article. It is staggering that companies are being advised to set up satellite businesses in the EU by government trade advisors. Job losses here and new jobs in the EU .
It really fucking annoys me why this sort of shit isn't more widely reported, it would stop some of the brexit voting twats at work insisting that nothing has changed.

A bit of long term horizon scanning: if Brexit does result in the UK’s economic downfall, and the country decides to attempt to rejoin a prosperous EU, could it be the end of the Pound Sterling?
-
• #29189
Probably, but I think a Norway like existence is more likely for England, with Scotland in the EU (and therefore with a say over regulations that we have to obey, but have no say in ourselves).

and the country decides to attempt to rejoin a prosperous EU.
Problem is the GBP requirement to join might not be sufficient if the economy get worse.
-
• #29191
Doubt it. I'm not sure the EU wants any more right-wing nationalistic countries with weak economies joining it. They're having enough difficulty with Poland and Hungary.

being advised to set up satellite businesses in the EU by government trade advisors
I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that this trade adviser has gone off script and ends up looking for a new job. I can’t believe this government of truth twisters have all of a sudden start giving useful and practical advice.

Given the democratic of who’s dying in the greatest numbers is it wrong to wonder if they disproportionately voted for the tories and brexit?*
