  • A thread for the Pipedream ALICE builds that are popping up around the forum.

Here’s mine in SSMTB guise as a starter for 10.

  • is ALICE all caps for a reason?
    (nice bike btw)

  • Yes, in the Pipedream marketing blurb it stands for ‘A Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment’.

A bit wanky I know, but whatever! It clearly sells the bikes...

  • I think one of these will be my next bike tbh. Are there many "on here" ?

  • Who the f...nice bikes, look pretty versatile.

  • @frankenbike and @2slices have one on the way - not sure if anyone else already has one.

  • Another of my builds - rigid MTB style without the dynamo setup and framebag.

  • One with a Thorn fork off single track

  • Looks nice "loaded up" for "epic multi day rides" in "Norfolk"

  • Good thread!

I've not seen one with the Pipedream carbon fork yet. I bought both forks and planning to swap them around depending on what I'm doing.

Just this one with a Whisky fork which results in a bit of an odd-looking build IMO:

Going to be a challenge to get it working with both as the setback will change quite significantly as will ETT.

  • Good thread. What dynamo do you use @mf?

Pedals built a nice one with a dropper and their own carbon fork.

  • Mine's an SP centrelock one, with SON Edelux II lights front and rear. Complete game-changer for winter riding. While light pattern is arguably not as 'good' as my Exposure Strada, the fact I'm not worried about how much charge I have is pretty liberating.

@frankenbike, I had a look at their new carbon fork the other day but it looks like it's a tapered steerer and I think mine's a straight 1 1/8th. Not sure if that's changed on the newer frames?

  • The current frames have a 44mm headtube.

Cheers for the indo about the dynamo - its something I'd like to try one day. How long have you had it? Just wondering about the reliability of it for dirt, mud and water.

  • I ummed and ahh'd for ages before finally doing it around November, so not ages but since wiring it all up (not a major job) they've been faultless, even in the pissing rain. Can highly recommend it.

I have this long-standing fantasy of riding the Tour Divide so I've built the ALICE up as if I were doing it. Obviously I won't be doing it for some years yet but I like the idea that I could jump on the bike and do something like that and it'd be 'ready' for it...

  • and one in ‘road/gravel/commuter’ mode

  • Agh don’t make me sick. No xl frames in until late 2021 or 2022

  • Regret not buying this when it came up. You've done it justice though that's for sure.

  • That's a beast. What tyres/guards are you using? I suspect that will be my first build whilst I'm living/stuck in the city.

I like your design idea about being ready for the Divide.

  • Those are Velo-Orange Zepplins over WTB Horizons (47mm).

Would be happy to part with the guards if you wanted - I’m not using them!

  • Final M on the site has been got (not by me) so if you want one I hope you're short.

  • Love this

  • I was chasing the eldest on his full susser around Afan and BikePark Wales on it like that!

My wrists still hurt thinking about it...

  • Built mine up last year. Really enjoying it! versatile for the seasonal conditions i get around here

  • Cracking build! Is that a Hope hub I spy?

  • I happen to know this Baller in real life...
