  • Has he done a 2 weeks course at TBA?

  • What ratios are folk running? When i was a wannabe 15 years agp or so , i ran huge gears even dabbling with 49/14 but after joining a road club with some old boy who fondly remembered their fixed days, I'm down to a near perfect 42/19.

Mixture of rolling countryside and hilly urban suits me fine

  • i've been running 48/15 for a few years now, all be it on relatively flat London roads mainly, (caveat-I can't really spin) but I'm moving back down to 46/16 or even 44/16 (as I have a spare 44 chainring), as 48/15 is really getting too much, and I'm convinced I'm slower overall as a result, even if my top end speed is more.

  • I am on 44/15-16 and ride pretty hilly rides.
I feel pretty comfy doing 25-35kmph

  • 48/18 on the Bob Jackson, 47/17 on the Feather.

  • 47-22, mostly urban and rolling lanes

i kept putting a bigger cog at the back progressively till they stopped making bigger ones, luckily it's working quite well. i would describe as a "you'll get there when you get there, but you'll get there, whatever is there" gear

  • 47/17 on the Feather

Bit high for Big Yellow Storage

  • 50x16 for regents park laps, sort of keeping up with the roadies. dropping to 49x16 or 16 and grinding on more mixed terrain

  • Your jokes are even lamer than your CV that I rejected.

  • 48-19 for the hills of South Wales

  • I'm down to a near perfect 42/19.

    I’m on 46:19 and I thought I was a spinner!

Was running 44:19 when I had two bikes and that one was on big 43mm tyres and had another bike on 28s with 48:19 but now I’m on 32/35mm tyres and the 46t up front feels just right.

  • The new Flyer is good, make more sense than the heavier Day One, and the original Flyer now more of a niche (abet great bike).

  • im on 4915 but really only ride round regents on it

  • 39/13 roughly 79"

  • 47x18

69 gear inches (on 28mm tyres).

... which is not really low enough for today’s snow & ice.

  • 42:17 and 44:18.

  • Yes tyres make a difference too....I'm on 38c

  • 46/18 and 35C tyres on the tooling about bike gives about 70"
The other qualifying bike (464) currently has 48/16 for about 80", but that needs changing as it's a bit soft for racing even with 165mm cranks.

  • 48x17 on the Mercian which will be changing in the summer as I could barely get it up Mott St. Should be good for Regents though.
50x19 on the Big Block which is nicer for every day, might bring that down a bit though

  • 49x18 has worked really well for me. Enough to keep a good pace at Regents and also fun when commuting and wandering about. Wish I had a bit more top end speed and stuff for sprinting but it's a nice EAI cog and I can't be asked buying a new one.
I occasionally have on 49x15 for the track and random rides when I can't be asked to switch it over. When on the track I feel like a 14 might be better but idk.

  • i wont have any of that foul language :/ this is a family-inclusive forum

  • 51/19 & 49/18 for the hills of Leeds.
