  • Pretty sure they were on Ebay, think they came from China.

  • Google ROCES CX-C09

  • That's great thanks both.

I have these, which are useful as they give you the option to use a load of different axles, also the seller is UK based.

  • Awesome thanks dude.

  • Giving this back tomorrow after a weeks rental. Will be trying other cargo bikes but christ the Bullitt was fun.

  • This box definable isn’t big enough though and doesn’t really make the most of the cargo space. Annoying that you can’t open it fully even with a short stem on too

  • The issue there is pricing.

An AluLock box like the one shown on there is sub £200. You could order direct from Denmark but with Brexit, I imagine the delays will be mad.
A bespoke box like a Rhino or similar which makes the most of the space available will set you back £1500.

I have an Alulock box on my Douze and you can get a second set of clips to fit on the other side of the lid to remove it completely as opposed to have it hinged. They are 35€+VAT+Shipping.

Again, I would discourage you from using SBC Cycles to fit them (sorry @picco ) as they didn't install mine properly and I need to re-order another set from AluLock. About £50 all in down the drain.

  • I was contemplating ordering direct from LvH to my sister in Ireland. Seems to be approx £700 saving. It’s transport from there being the next challenge.

    Could cycle it I guess

What the fuck. Are they made of gold or something?

Also I only vaguely recall seeing this in the flesh but aren't there alu boxes like that which hinge up on a short side?

  • Dunno, they look well designed and well made .. its not too bad tbh, a van will cost more

  • If you're looking to get a cheap but lightweight box I can recommend these ex army aluminium catering boxes, you can find them elsewhere for closer to £40-50 which is what I paid.
Obviously you still won't be making the most of the space but you will be able to get up and running quickly and you can put the money you save aside for a Rhino box in the future (I've seen them in the flesh and you can see how they cost so much).
Wooden boxes are a good alternative, we've fitted a couple of Madjax wooden boxes for courier service companies near us, better use of the space than the AluLock boxes and rattle less than the plastic baseboard/BBX side panel combo.

  • They are the best you can get it is subjective if they are worth the price or not - it is a small market so the R&D cost is relatively high compared to the number of boxes you could ever sell.
Most buyers will buy it via a business so the £1,500 will hurt less.
Or you could also apply for a cargo grant and buy it with it (only applicable to businesses again).

I did ask AluLock if they could do a bespoke box for me but they aren't interested in dealing with low numbers as it'll cost close to the Rhino...

  • I hate an unnecessary rattle. This bike was far noisier unloaded compared to loaded which did annoy me. I think because the box had split round the base attachments

  • Plans printed. Wood bought.

    Box tomorrow, weather permitting.

  • Using offcuts of alu extrusion construction kit for the frame so it can have an adjustable seat and can be dismantlable. That’s the plan, anyway.

  • amazing and brave to use a rim brake on a cargo bike!

  • They work great tbh! I do keep thinking about upgrading to some basic but functional cable discs like BB5 or BB7, but it’s not really for performance reasons. It’s because those red DX brakes are getting rare and are an expensive thing to be sat outside getting trashed by the weather. Same with the 9-speed X0; it looks really cool but it’s got rare and expensive in the time I’ve had it and it’s getting ruined when it sits outside in the elements.

  • 49kg! £5k isnt too bad but what are the canopy/child carrying options?

  • Website link says it’s can do that, so there must be accessories I haven’t looked that deeply into it.

Edit: here’s the link to the kid seats

  • Cube is a great value euro-brand. Bikes are good. The electric version of kathmandu is great.

  • Is it @TM 's shop that sells Cube? When I was at Cycle Surgery they were a bit of a in-joke among the staff (quality and warranty weren't the best) but apparently they're pretty good now.

  • Jinx !

Wouldn't bother with a box myself. Get yourself a bag or just use a tarp, much more flexible and the aeros make a surprisingly big difference.
