  • SL7 has threaded BB.

  • The Sarto is pretty sweet. Seta all day long though.

    @amey no it doesn't.

  • Way off the brief but I totally would. Maybe if I get some serious career-ending dirt on him I can blackmail him into getting me one.

  • Can’t help but think that any bike you spend 10k on new today you could build in two years time for sub £2000... anyway if it has to be carbon I’d go for a Parlee, I know nothing about aero bikes...
Edit: is a Cinelli Laser Mia aero? I’d have one of them...

  • Or ten pairs of shoes

  • 3T.

I know the hype has passed but they’re weird, Italian, slightly flawed, plenty fast, probably going bust...

    FutUrE cLaSic

  • I'd buy a Storck or a Look Blade.

You know, to not buy a Trek or a Giant but have pretty much the same performance, just have to spend more to get it. And potentially more issues/difficulties with finding dealers for warranties. Perfect level of conventional but poser. Parlee is up there too.

  • This in an Akira livery

  • I agree about big brands R&D and how they get it right but if I was blowing £10K i'd want something that was not an every day name. I like the look of Baums, they look expensive.

  • They are, but I don't think steel is something he would consider...

  • Sounds like they know what they want already, why are they bothering you?

  • Think that’s a little optimistic on depreciation

  • Just buy an e-bike if you're that desperate to be fast

  • buy a van

    This is the correct answer!

  • Thread starts with such promise and descends into the depressing reality of the thought processes of someone who has £10K to spend on a bike, and whose only real requirements are that it should come 'off the shelf' and wear its price tag prominently.

  • The thread starts with pictures of Alan Fucking Sugar and his crappy bar angles.

  • I had also been hoping that we could put together a compelling case for something a bit more exciting than a run of the mill carbon whip but I'm afraid we'll have to write this one off as a lost cause. In his own words, he's after a "bling aero machine" and he's discluded any notion of custom/smaller brand/anything that would garner even a glint of approval on here.

I can assure you that I am just as disappointed as you are with how this has panned out. On the plus side let's console ourselves with the knowledge that crazy budgets and good taste rarely go hand in hand so there's really not much to be jealous of. Just be thankful that it's these people who prop up the HHSRB second-hand market when the next gen of "winningest bike ever" is released in a few years.

Please continue posting along the lines of 'How you should burn 10k', maybe I'll have a fatter wallet one day and will know where to look for inspiration.

  • Battaglin power+ evo

    So shiney.

  • This bike is 3k on ebay, buy it and pocket the change.

  • thats hot but. never buy a 2nd hand carbon bike from someone you dont know

  • Slight derail from the core purpose of how to spend £10k but I got a barely used R5 with eTap and £2k Roval wheels off eBay less than 12 months ago. Strange story though as it was £2.5k, I made an offer for a little but not much less and he steadily lowballed himself down to £1.6k which I thought was a bold strategy.

It was obviously not the latest model but pretty sharp depreciation from £8k if only for one example.

Anyway, back to core purpose of the thread.....

  • What about a TT3 from Bertoletti, got the aeros, crazy arse brakes, horrible tape choice and even proclaims loudly that you are, in fact, a Legend http://www.legendbybertoletti.it/en/bicycles/tt3-road/

  • There is a customer at my LBS who has very recently burned close to £10k on a custom build specialized ( i'm guessing it is an sl7 I don't really follow modern bikes that much) I wouldn't have put him in the class of being able to afford such a bike either. It was nice but unremarkable in appearance drawing my curiosity only because of the price tag.

Coincidentally I started an exchange with a custom framebuilder myself yesterday that I hope will yield a once in a lifetime and fairly niche bike for me...but for nowhere near £10k
