Good luck getting fixed up quickly. I had lower back problems too first lockdown. I was convinced it was a running injury because I'd doubled my running but by the time I got to see a physio it was actually the fact that I'd more than quadrupled my time spent sitting that was causing the problem. So sitting injurys are definitely a thing. I'm a barber so usually stand all day at work and all the extra sitting was shortening my hamstrings so now i do 5 min lower back/hamstring stretching + 5min lower back strengthening morning and night even if I'm not feeling any tightness and it was sorted in no time and zero issues since.

I ran through this the other night before flood evacuation madness kicked in (no flood at house thankfully).
Ran the flooded river path again tonight, ground surprisingly firm in most places, I guess the mud was trodden firm by footfall in 10 months of covid localism so the water flowed off it rather than soaking in.

Where is this? I ran around reddish vale today, there’s some new lakes where the river burst its bank, must have been crazy the other night.

Hawthorn Rd, goes under the canal. There's a ledge on the left that made it passable ankle deep.

Fair play.
I bottled the Lea Bridge underpass this morning for a lot less water than that.

I admire your decision, the water was very cold & full of unknowns but once I realised it seemed pointless to go backwards.

I’ve never troubled the higher echelons of Strava so I had nothing to lose by turning back. I assume you were on a lick?

Would like to start running, what shoes should I get? Cheep as possible preferably. Any pointers please.

Seriously though, it depends on your feet, how you run, what you want to run, etc.
A good running shop will help you, you'll pay a bit more than you want to (it helps if you are up-front with them about how much you're willing to pay) but it is worth it in the long run (no pun intended).

Thanks, honestly I've not really done any running in years and was thinking of doing laps around the park. There a recommended shop north London area?

Was just out with a (permitted plus 1) clubmate and we went looking at the rising flood waters. We both were egging each other on a bit, but only entered standing not flowing stuff

Ha I was studying this trying to suss where it was, I thought it couldn't be there cos of the ledge, wasn't expecting it to be that deep. A pal was going to ride through when the ledge was still just visible but happily was warned off by a family coming from the other direction.

Riding through would only have ended badly! There were local residents out offering tips to passers-by, I think it was entertaining them tbh.

Week 3 of the 10k plan done and i swapped yesterdays 1 hr easy run for a easy ride as the weather was nice. This was the first time I've touched my bike in 3 weeks and was worried my cycling power may have suffered but i averaged 195 watts for the 90 mins at 119 bpm which is Z1 for me so thats about a 4-5 bpm improvement on what I'd usually expect to see for a ride like that. I'm pleased and a little relieved with that as the accumulated running fatigue in the legs can make the cycling legs feel heavy but in this case its just a red herring and is actually doing more good than harm.

Recent cheap Balaclava purchase worn under a hat which has helped keep me warm during recent early morning runs - https://www.trespass.com/moulder-unisex-balaclava?gclid=

Really not sure about long run in this weather - sitting by the fire is looking far more tempting

Since it's snowing which technically makes it Christmas again, would anyone like these compression shorts? I know it's not the forum approved outfit but they're free if you want them.
Got for actual Christmas but not my thing
Size S never worn (like the Hemingway poem) in london

It’s lovely out there! My “sorry I’m running near you” / Covid snood usually only gets deployed as I approach walkers etc but I admit I just slowed my pace and kept it on today.
I’m loving getting little blocks of 7 - 10 km done two or three times a week at the moment. It feels great to be pounding the pavement again (albeit slowly).... But. I can’t settle on a form. I think I naturally go mid to heel, but forefoot feels less jarring sometimes. I have hip, adductor and an inside knee thing - which I’m sure are all part of the same band issue and being 44. I’ve done a bit of physiotherapist stuff and am getting great relief from the YouTube runners mobility exercises someone posted up thread.. it feels good. But those little pain red flags are there after about three or four miles.
So am I best just reducing effort and distance or is this just something runners live with?
Why aren’t I a fast superhuman? Why!?

No way man, fresh snow is the best for running!
Yeah your commute energy burn does look high in comparison to your 10k effort but the half marathon seems about right and i suppose it doesn't really matter unless your dieting and all your efforts are under 90 mins so can rely on stored glycogen and don't have to worry about fueling during exercise.
