my question for this kind of behaviour is whats the ROI in taking things out of packaging and putting them in containers? Why not treat the packaging as container itself? In some cases I understand things go bad or lose flavour but dried beans?!

When I can, I replace them with either a huge sack (rice / pasta) or from the packaging free shop. Take the container straight to the shop.
Also, order. Bring the order.
I made a mistake and bought a 20kg sack, its impossible to pour it into a smaller container
