Day 13
More cabinets in place, including the holes cut out for the sink and hob. And the frame for the fridge has been completed - and because the fridge is over 2m tall, a ridiculous little cupboard above the fridge to store? I have no idea what will go in that... a hidden stash of red wine maybe?

Appliances are going in today.
They won't work until Monday once then electrician finishes his work to change the consumer unit, etc. But damn... they are a lot better than I even remembered them being. Miele is nice.
Perhaps the process of appreciating and experiencing a new kitchen is merely having to live on pot noodles for a month or so before.

I feel like this has been on the agenda of a HJ marketing meeting at some point

The appliances are going in... and now I've seen the washing machine for the first time.
https://www.miele.co.uk/e/w1-front-loading-washing-machine-wer-865-wps-pwash-and-tdos-and-9kg-lotus-white-11359360-pI'm utterly fascinated by the fact that there's only one button. Obviously the screen is a touch screen, but I've never seen a washing machine that was like this. Let alone the auto-dosing washing liquid compartment. Feels a bit space age compared to what I've been used to for 30 years.

Please tell me it has an app that is a security nightmare?
Oh it's networked too popcorn.gif

I'm going to use the free ones that came with the machine. I'll let you know how it goes.
I just, and it works like this:
- Phase 1 is the primary detergent and is approx £13 for 37 washes... 35p a wash.
- Phase 2 is the stain detergent that will only be used if the machine senses stains from phase 1, and is also approx £13 for 37 washes... 35p a wash.
So if clothes are clean... 35p a wash.
If clothes are heavily stained... 70p a wash.Might as well approximate that an average wash is 45p or something like that.
Compared to liquid tabs which average out around 20p per tab, and should have 2 tabs for a full load in the hard water South East... so 2 tabs per load = 40p per wash.
Seems very comparable. With the advantage that if you put a very light load in that it will use less detergent.
If that's correct it doesn't seem wild.

I checked... and this is going on it's own non-internet VLAN so I can control it within the house using Home Assistant rather than the app... avoiding the need for connecting it to the internet (the app would need cloud services).

Looks pretty great - we've got a Miele but it's a lower end model. Is it about 50kg? Ours is a total tank, which is pretty reassuring. It's 5 years old now and hasn't missed a beat.

Is it about 50kg?
95kg for the washing machine.
But I think the fridge must weight more given the cursing whilst bringing that into the house.
Nope... just checked, the fridge freezer was only 88kg https://www.miele.co.uk/e/freestanding-fridge-freezer-kfn-29493-de-edtcs-stainless-steel-cleansteel-10805150-p
Now I'm glad they rebuilt the floor in there.

Just checked and ours is 151kg.
Oof.
-
• #365
The weight of the units won't be much compared to weight of 10 or 15 people standing/sitting in the kitchen during a party (15 people would be 1000kg or so).

And £22k in fines

Day 14
I has appliances.
No skirting boards or a radiator though. Or power. Or worktop. Actually the list of things to do remains long.

Were you always going to have white doors? Why do I think they were sage?

That’s primer yo. They’ll be painted in situ iirc

^ what he said.
The cabinets will be painted... erm... soon. They get delivered pre-primed, and the fitting adds minor pieces of wood to ensure a perfect fit to the kitchen walls, etc. All of it gets painted in situ when it's all completed.
Today is:
- Electrics: sockets, fuse box, spur, appliances
- Plumbing of appliances and the radiator
- Skirting boards may be done too
- Stonemason doing the worktop has also visited and measured up for the template
I have 5 people on-site today... it's a bit noisy and hard to work.
The worktop is challenging... the boldness of the pattern and the worktop needing to fit a U shape means that no matter how I do it the veins will run in different directions. So I'm presently opting for the two long sides under the cabinets to go end to end, and a shorter section on the sink end.

Day 15
This is almost done now.
Waiting on:
- Worktop (which only got measured today)
- Paint on walls and cabinets (which is waiting until the worktop is done)
- Installation of tap and hob (also need the worktop)
- Final clean
All of the appliances that are fitted are working, all the lights are working.
ETA on the worktop is a vague "allow 10 working days, subject to your approval of the template and cuts".
Otherwise though... I'm almost there.
Oh... new fusebox too, I should've taken a photo of the old awful one so I'm not sure of the value of showing the new.
If people are interested I'll go round and take a lot of photos of details of workmanship, etc and some of the choices that were made along the way.

Where's the pendant from?
yeah, that's a very sensible idea - our flat is on a curve in the street and a tenement so it's is properly wonky but you wouldn't guess it too much cause the worktop installers did such a good job
