Gave my bass away before moving countries, and I haven't touched one since October. I was lusting over thick strings in the past months, and a few days ago finally I pulled the trigger on a Harley Benton PB-20 SBK, which should arrive within 3 weeks. Reviews say it's crazy value for this amount of money and I fell in love with the black satin finish.
Will swap/paint the pickguard black eventually. Planning to get a set of 55-110 strings and tune it down to C standard and play all sorts of shit-and-mud-sounding doom metal on it. Then when the time and money are both right I'll upgrade the pickups too. -

I'm here for this. Doom bass is key!
I've heard those Harley Bentons are superb too!

£88 for a new bass is pretty insane really!
I've heard HB stuff holds its own again the other low cost brands & considering they're 3x the price that's saying something too! Enjoy!

Lace Aluma Bass Bar 3.5 or Curtis Novak BS-DS would be a wild pickup swap into that thing and could doom very nicely indeed!

Cheers, my previous bass was a Harley Benton too (JB-75MN NA) and I loved it. I'm not a good musician though, so my expectations are probably quite below anyone here. :) As for the pickups, thanks for the suggestions, will keep an eye on second hand models, they might pop up for cheap...

Exactly! I have a B-stock HB TE-52 telly, and it's fantastic. Took it to a luthier who polished the frets for me and it plays great ever since.

That’s dooooope.
(Meaning the rainbow rock monster)
The ladies tele needs some tuning? Fab otherwise.

Might not need new pups, decent strings and a nice preamp will do more. Sansamp Bass Driver ftw, you can pick them up off ebay for under £150.
Then a Russian Big Muff Pi :)
Tip on looking out for heavy guage strings, keep an eye out for discounts on 6/7 string packs and discard the skinny ones. Some bargains crop up sometimes. -

Thanks for the tip on the strings, will definitely keep an eye out!
I have a Scarlett Solo and I run sim amps basically. Too many hobbies, too little dime for all of them, not planning on buying a real amp in the near future. If I ever buy a bass amp it's going to be Green. Saving up... -

Noice, Jimmy of Mars Red Sky had a Matamp Green (Gt200?) going through Orange OBC cabs when I saw them which sounded so good, I don't think I've seen any other bassists use one live.
I've got a Hiwatt though it needs some bench time: re-valve and bias and possibly some caps need replacing, just can't justify the spend until I can actually use it again at volume. I love cranking up a valve bass amp!

Hiwatts are Uber cool - still regret not buying a 50w head from the little guitar and furniture spot in the stables market sometime back in the Paleolithic era. Think he wanted 350 for it....those were the days.

Fuck, that was my dream head for a while... My mate has had one for years, sounds incredible with his 57 Les Paul TV junior going through it, spectacular machines...

Wow, that thing looks massive, bet it generates some sweet wall-crushing sounds. :)

Yeah, it's a tank! Not super high gain, it's got a lovely creamy Sabbath distortion but you can turn it all the way up without it turning to crap, sounds glorious! Then I've got a Russian muff for heavy bits.
I borrowed an Ampeg 8x10 and nearly died loading out of The Met Lounge in P'bo and regretted my life choices, I ended up with two orange 4x10 to make loading "easier". They sounded a million times better than an ampeg fridge too. -

Looks ace... I also normally hate PRS guitars but I would smash that...

It has knobs haha! They're clear PRS lampshade knobs. I still need to wire the pickups and output to the harness and it really badly needs a fret dressing at best and a regret at worst. Sadly LGS is unable to do service at the moment due to restrictions...
