  • There is a bit of back story here...

This may be a repost from 4 years ago.

  • Interesting that it confirms that he found them in the Capitol, supporting the claim that the police lost a bag of them. However this doesn't help him much because:

    "MUNCHEL—who was dressed in
tactical gear and carried a taser on his hip, and stashed other “weapons” in a tactical bag outside
    the Capitol"

He can hardly argue he was there for peaceful protest.

  • do better.

Ok, how about this? The Brexit shitshow that we're currently in and Trump's 4 years of shitfuckery are not just because power-hungry proto-fascists played the populist card. They also happened because we didn't effectively counter it. All the left did was to rage against how thick people were and shout them down (when we weren't calling them a "basket of deplorables"). That approach demonstrably did not work because all that happened was that a huge number of right-leaning swing voters just went quiet and expressed their views via the ballot box instead. Preventing actual attempted mini-coups is relatively straightforward as long as the basic legal and regulatory structures remain in place. Preventing the next proto-fascist getting freely voted into power (which is where the fun really starts and those frameworks get eroded, as the last 4 years have shown) requires more than just "fuck everyone (to the political right of me)." We can do better than that.

  • They also happened because we didn't effectively counter it.

you're right. and to that end, we can start to counter it by:

    a) holding our 'free' press to account with greater scrutiny / regulations - this includes social media platforms

    b) adopting a no second chances approach to justice when it comes to convicting those found guilty of white supremacist related crimes

    c) instigating a top down assessment of how / why law enforcement targets minorities and casts a blind eye towards white supremacy

these fucks aren't interested in debate, and even when they pretend they are - it's always in bad faith. you don't fix fascism with fireside chats. you snip that shit hard, on day one, if you don't, you merely create an environment where extremist ideas are allowed to flourish as they are lent an air of legitimacy by allowing them to be debated in the first place, as has been proven time and again.

an "undecided" right winger is indistinguishable from an actual fashy right winger the moment they put their mark next to a cunt like trump / farage etc. it's semantics at that point.

  • Proud Boys abandon Trump, calling him a total failure.

  • Yes and he is being roundly called out for it. The Thunburg and AOC responses are great.

  • Also from my comment earlier

The fact that Parler is now hosted on Russian systems makes it fair game now for the CIA / NSA so that will be interesting to watch.

The FBI have been asked to assess their role in the events of Jan 6th.

  • Qanon dumb fucks shocked at no mass execution of the Satanists....

But, as Mr Biden took his oath and no arrests were made, some in the QAnon community had an uncomfortable meeting with reality.

So 75 million US citizens and 17 million Brits are completely unreachable in terms of building a common vision for the future because they voted for Trump or Brexit? What's your vision for the future then? Chuck them in camps, mass sterilisation?

  • Chuck them in camps, mass sterilisation?

    What's the best way forward?
option a) unite WITH white supremacists
option b) unite AGAINST white supremacists

i know what side my bread's buttered.

  • One popular Telegram channel reassured its 130,000 subscribers that Mr Trump and the "Q" team were still in control behind the scenes

Can you imagine being on a chat with 13k people... How the fuck does one even follow the chat?! 130k of QAnon... Fuck me...

We have more in common than separates us.

  • I tried to keep up with this thread the past years. Apparently I missed the diet coke button.

Yup, that's the natural response to your assertion that there's literally no ideological diversity among 74 million Americans. I mean I really don't know what to do with your belief that there's nothing to be gained from any attempt at engagement with any of them. It's just absurd and so counterproductive not to at least try to shift their mindset slightly before the next election. Are you familiar with this story?

Chen Sheng was an officer serving the Qin Dynasty, famous for their draconian punishments. He was supposed to lead his army to a rendezvous point, but he got delayed by heavy rains and it became clear he was going to arrive late.

Chen turns to his friend Wu Guang and asks “What’s the penalty for being late?”

    “Death,” says Wu.

“And what’s the penalty for rebellion?”

    “Death,” says Wu.

    “Well then…” says Chen Sheng.

And thus began the famous Dazexiang Uprising, which caused thousands of deaths and helped usher in a period of instability and chaos that resulted in the fall of the Qin Dynasty three years later.

  • Bollocks.

    That box is the internet.

  • but 74 million Americans did vote for a man that is objectively, a fascist and a white supremacist. he then went on to cement this reputation in the weeks leading up to his departure from the white house. whatever other opinions / motivations the people that put him there hold, they pale in comparison to this one immutable fact: they are OK with a fascist takeover of the United States. it's mind blowing but here we are.

Now, the onus is now on each and everyone of these voters to publicly distance themselves from their choice, starting with the communities in which they live - and those that continue to support fascist insurrection need be treated with the suspicion they richly deserve, on a legislative level if required. What's the alternative? hear them out and have a bit of fascism because that's the polite thing to do? fuck that. i have first hand experience of what happens when this malignant shit is allowed to continue as a result of a soft-touch, careful now approach, and people that maybe don't look like you or i always end up paying the price.

hey ho, no one's getting anywhere here so that's that.

  • Good story, but from the looks of it, they incited an insurrection, which ultimately ended with their assassination by their own men?

Also does the Q stand for Qin?

  • Good story, but from the looks of it, they incited an insurrection, which ultimately ended with their assassination by their own men?

...and which caused vast collateral damage and ultimately brought down an empire. It's hardly fair to say that they incited an insurrection, when what they did was the logical response to being faced with the ultimate punishment for the lesser of two crimes.

  • Now, the onus is now on each and everyone of these voters to publicly distance themselves from their choice, starting with the communities in which they live

And literally the worst way to encourage them to do that is to lump all those voters in with the fucks who actually tried to instigate a fascist takeover by literally taking pipe bombs to the Capitol. Absolutely treat them with suspicion, especially those who enabled Trump and his agenda from positions of power, but that's not incompatible with an attempt at reconciliation with the wider Trump-voting public. All those Q-anon nutjobs who are suddenly going cold-turkey will be more open to persuasion now than they will when they latch on to the next conspiracy.
