  • I have emailed them. I'll check out how well it fits tomorrow, then make a call on whether I'm going to do the finishing myself that I think the mudguard needs, or send it back.

For £70 (£65 plus a fiver postage) I'd not typically expect to have to sand back and clear coat something.

  • Yeah there's no way they can stand by that especially for 70 quid. You never know they may be as disappointed as you.

  • Depends on whether they have the same "fuck you, we've got your money so get fucked" approach to customer service as DMR!

  • Is it completely lacking in clear coat? It's simply not been applied? It certainly looks like that in your photos.
The guard in the photos on their website has a quite obvious gloss clear coat...

I can't understand how QC could fail so badly and let it out the door.
Id be amazed if their response is anything other than a profuse apology with refund or exchange.

  • It's carbon sheet that has been cured, rubbed back indifferently, had a sticker put on it, packed and shipped.

    Absolutely no clear-coat.

If I keep it I would sand back the edges they've missed, even out the corners and then clear-coat it.

  • Send that shit back! But really, thats just so shoddy.

  • I think they're meant to do that for you for that price. By the looks of things they are still just a workshop so should be easier to deal with than a bigger company like DMR. everything on their website and social media looks decent and if the quality of the products they're putting out is that different it'll catch up with them pretty quickly. Much quicker than it will a big company so they really should do something to rectify this. And yours certainly doesn't look like this which is what they are supposed to be selling

  • They have asked for it back and will make me a new one with the glossy finish- he did say that the satin finish is standard.

  • are wonky corners and tatty edges standard too?

  • my thoughts!
The pictures online look zero like the product you received.

  • I’m going to find that out empirically I suspect.

  • @Dammit do you want to know the mounting hole dimensions on an RRP guard?

  • Yeah exactly. Unbelievable that the quality of the satin one was considered acceptable then.

No mention on the website that there are two finish options and it's now listed as sold out. Hmmm.

  • I suspect they've put the mudguard into the "too much trouble" bucket, post my email.

Which is a shame in many ways as they're the only people making a Helm specific mudguard, but it's their prerogative of course.

I'm just about to pop out to the Post Office to send my current one back.

  • Genuine Q: Why would you choose a carbon mudguard over a cheapy plastic one? They look flipping cool but I think I'd prefer something less stiff for when the inevitable stone or twig gets caught and sends you OTB.

Also, those crown mount guards don't seem to offer any protection to the seals/stanchions which is the main part of having a guard IMO

  • I can't really give you a good, well thought out reason.

My genuine reason/chain of thought that lead to the purchase: there are mounts on the back of the fork, it would therefore be cool to use them. I will use them, by buying this mudguard so I can move the current mudguard onto the other bike, whose mudguard has split.

  • protection to the seals/stanchions

Yeah this is part of what put me off getting the 3d printed guard for the helm. I think it's possible that, without the wing/flap protruding down, it could actually direct more muck onto the seal/stanchion area than it would with no mudguard at all.

Its the zip ties used to install the other fenders that put me off, they eventually leave marks on the fork legs

  • Tried wrapping forks in gorilla tape normal and or gorilla tape clear. Will stop such issues.

  • Yeah, you're absolutely right. I've thought about protecting the areas with some clear tape.
It's just that you'd think you wouldn't have to dick about with zip ties and tape on a fork that has bolt holes for a fender.
I've simply learned to enjoy not being able to see much due to mud spray on my glasses/goggles. Makes it more fun innit...

  • @magpie nice orange! @Dammit wtf, hope you're returning that or get a refund and keep it for lols.

I've discovered yet another modernish steel HT , pipedream moxie m3. Never heard of them before, anyone have any experience? I realise it's just a regular steel frame, I've seen the geo chart and like it plus the colours are nice. Just wondering if the company is ok or if this is going to turn into another sick bike affair.

  • Pipedream are well established, come from the days before long low and slack, and even dropper posts.

  • Doe's anyone have an EDC tool, and want to give me an opinion on it? I'm in two minds about getting one, I like the convenience, but my worry is that I'm replacing the tools I have with lesser ones.

  • @monkdagola will be able to tell you soon

  • come from the days before long low and slack, and even dropper posts

    The beforetimes surely were dark.
