Parent company has decided to put the entire staff through mandatory "Compassionate communicatioin" workshops. So may ways in which that is fucked up, starting with "mandatory" and how no reason/explanation was given.

Anyhoo, the person running this workshop made a big thing near the beginning about creating safe spaces. OK.

In a section where they talk about considering people's needs in communication, to illustrate the topic they used a clip from Joker: the bit where he kills the talk show host.

Trust me, this wasn't a brave choice. It was a stupid one. Hilariously stupid, but in an organisation this size somebody is guaranteed to have been made to feel very unsafe.

Cynical me asks: any members of the senior management team recently implicated in a harassment case that could be settled with a payoff, NDA, and committment to complete communication and sensitivity training?

We had a session yesterday for "support our people through difficult times".
90 minutes worth of basic 'just be a fucking human being' advice, which peaked with the advice that "if any of your team are having problems at work you should sign post them to their family members and friends for support".

came out of the house a couple of nights back and just about to cross the road when i was nearly bowled over by three lads all togged up in tracksuits jogging down the middle of the road in the pitch black pushing a 6ft tall tractor tyre or some vehicular tyre, looked like it weighed a fair bit. end of my road is a busy road so they just slowed the tyre and stopped for a breather at the end i walked past and smiled at them
gone when i returned 5 mins later
