  • Amanda Gorman - simply outstanding, brilliant use of words, phrasing and delivery.

  • Yes, really amazing stuff

  • With the whole separation of church and state thing, I’m surprised at the levels of Jeebus

  • I’m surprised at the levels of Jeebus

    Always.

  • well that was boring, too much praying for my liking, I was only watching in case someone got shot

  • I wasn't watching for the same reason.

  • 'not by the example of our power but by the power of our example'
a pretty good line by anyone's standard, they just have to live up to that now...

Absolutely standard political speechwriting, I'm afraid, a very tired rhetorical trope. It sounds like something that's been sitting in a drawer somewhere for a long time, waiting to be trotted out for a big occasion.

Here's an op-ed piece from Sanders:

  • I love the new thread title. Although 'I feel stupid - randy 1776' would have been nice as well

  • Yeah, quite a lot of god chat.

  • Yes she does.

  • iPlayer has the four part documentary about Obama on at the moment. A useful look at a President coming in controlling both houses of Congress but facing a Republican party that will not work with him at all, and having to deal with an extreme crisis. If it wasn't already taken it could be called Curb Your Enthusiasm.

  • Stupid thread name change.

Edit: To elaborate on why I think this:

Trump has plagued this country for four years, and I have lived here for two of them. It has impacted my life and those around me every single day. He's gone. Let him live in the past. This thread can become the focus of, hopefully, the positive impact that the Biden administration will have going forwards. Of course, discuss the impeachment of Trump and so on, but to change the name of the thread to Will Trump Be Arrested is just stupid and belittles the rest of the US Political system (not that I necessarily like it as a system, but it doesn't revolve around one person, one who is no longer a politician.) I don't want a reminder of what a disgrace he is every single time I look at my Following tab.

  • I agree.

  • maybe so, but the memes were great.

  • US politics - Has-been Trump thread

  • Yeah, he was President. Makes sense. Doesn't mean it needs to continue, though. Continue to Trump away, but yeah, changing the name is dumb.

  • This thread was born of Trump. It is its last homage.

  • I think you've misread @Aroogah 's post, there.

  • In all seriousness, what trump does next is pretty key to what happens in US politics. 75m voted for him. His trial will dominate the first 100 days of the new administration. If he can find the platform, whip the republicans with it to avoid impeachment he may be the next potus.

I think he may have gone politically busy and will whimper away without the easy communication that Twitter brought him or the fear that drove his enablers. That may be my natural optimism tho.

  • The US political system is a disgrace in itself imo. Trump just put a magnifying glass on it.

That’s amazing. First thread I looked at had this gem of a post about waiting until the 24th for it all to kick off -

“23 is jordans number shirt He is the goat. Trump doesn't want to share 2sl3 so the plain is 24th. Simon said this would happen or the likes he also said there's off camra arrests ect. Trump has them all now“

  • 75m voted for him.

Again, not 75 millions die hard Trump supporter.

  • This thread was always Trump.

Wanting to move away/on has to be healthy though. I get it.
