Any recommendations for a small (I want to velcro it to the back of my monitor) amp with USB input (and preferably USB powered)? Probably to use with the aforementioned Wharfedale 9.0s.

Latest Hyby FC3?

I haven't listened to either but aren't those b&m supposed to be a bit of a classic set?
I'd be very surprised if the B&M aren't better.

Cheers, but from googling isn't that a headphone amp?
Although it does seem unlikely that I'll find a USB powered speaker amp, will have to have another power cable I guess

Indeed. Sorry.

Have new 606 on a Marantz PM7000N and happy with them, small room, doing TV/film and just plain listening to stuff. Don't have the 'weight' of previous speakers i've had in here (all floorstanders of much higher price, but also much older), but what I wanted was something that would sound pleasing at really low volumes (neighbours and i'm only at home at night pretty much).
Can get them from Peter tyson for same price (and sevenoaks and others, that price is extended to most B+W dealers btw, so don't have to default to richer sounds).Turntable I was in same boat a month ago, went and looked at a rega P1, pro ject carbon and another one. But all just weren't really doing it for me. Ended up with a 70s Technics with an 80's cart. Just found a really nice Micro Seiki headshell that will go with the 70s vibe and maybe spending way too much on a whole Micro Seiki tonearm, as for no other reason than they are just beautiful (technics stock tonearm does its job fine!)
Currently eyeing up a new Ortofon Bronze cart for this just now, or a goldring 1042, probably have to flip a coin lol.
Edit, maybe actually a Nagaoka Mp200, theres a guy in Singapore who does very in depth reviews on items he buys (so no affiliation to any mftr or rtlr), 1042 and 2M bronze both very good, but he did a direct comparison with an Mp200. I'm sold. £350 though just for cart, but probably worth it, recently 'gifted' a large quantity of records, through discogs found 5 records that if sold at the low end of what they go for pays for my entire setup lol.I defo favour buying old and quality over new and basic for same price. If nothing else in 5 years time when you have to move house and can't take it with you, it won't loose any value, and if lucky might have climbed a little. Same for quality camera lenses, literally better than money in a bank.

I guess Android and USB DAC would be the way to go. Unless you mount it somewhere though it's much more awkward to use.
Or just use your phone.
I use my iPhone to stream via Airplay to an Airport Express (A1392) which has a combined 3.5mm analogue/digital out. Sound quality is perfectly fine via an Arcam amp and Celestion speakers, and it's easy to use.

Annoyingly my amp (Marantz PM6007) has two optical inputs but only one button on the remote for optical input and you press it to cycle between the two which makes it a bit useless for a universal remote.
In the absence of any other bright ideas I'm thinking of using an optical to coax converter to the coax input as there is only one of those so it can be selected first time using the remote. There are lots in the £10-£15 range such as this https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Proster-Digital-Converter-Dolby-AC3-Bi-directional/dp/B07JBWW5PB , is there any reason to spend more?

Don't think so.
I use a similar device to connect my gf's TV optical out to her old Sony 5. 1 AVR via coaxial (Scart being its second input option...brrrr)
So now she can have all audio going thru it (Sky, terrestrial and smart TV apps). She wasn't using the avr at all earlier.
Anyway my point is, no, you don't need more than that.

is anyone interested in:
an ortofon 2m red cart with about 40 hours (max )
AND/OR
a DIY Gainclone poweramp with dual vol controls this has the lm3886 chip in a cool thin case. awesome if you have one source.
£50 for the cart or £75 for the amp

edited..have to renege my offer. :(

• #9292
what were you interested in?
-
• #9293
Potentially interested in the cart. How hard is it to properly set up a cart? Any particular reason for the sale?
Edit: setup looks fairly straightforward as I’ve got the bits I need.

you just have to be methodical. i have one of the arc protractors off ebay for my cart. if you have a decent magnifying glass and a lamp it is straight forward.
i bought it for the headshell it was attached to (the OG one for my arm), then kept it as a spare. i have hardly used it. want to try and get some coin together to have me speakers renovated, hence the sale.

Ah cool. Need to do some sums (expensive week ahead). But I’ll let you know (unless someone else jumps in).

The cart, then I realised I'm interested in one of the higher up models. Sorry 'bout that.

Due to health things I’ve been shielding since new year which has kept me away from the big setup at work and my wife has nicked my Grados for her Zoom meetings which leaves me with this little setup: KZ ZS10 pro IEMs and the Topping MX3 amp. It’s remarkably adequate, so obvs now I’m wondering what a higher spec head-fi setup would sound like. My wallet is bracing itself.

Cranked the volume up last night to listen to The The - Infected. System really comes alive when it's a bit louder, must make the most of no neighbours for the next wee while.
The production on The The stuff is so nice. I think my love of art rock, new wave, post punk etc has been enhanced by how good toms and percussion sound on the Tannoy & sealed sub combo.

Don’t, I’m missing my subs! Percussion really is transformed innit. I’ve grown to really love live recordings since I added them.
The wharfedale 9 series is a relatively low end range I think. Saying that, if you are interested in more bass I have some Wharfedale 9.4s (floor standing) I should really sell. If you want less bass I also have 9.0 to get rid of ...
