The floor looks good and it’s nice to see someone having a good experience with the work being done to a good standard.
We normally only hear tales of woe. -

Guess who woke up in the middle of the night and figured he should turn the heater on to dry out the last of the plaster that is still not perfectly dry... and in doing so knocked over the 2 unused tiles that then broke and sent the sound of smashing tiles through a perfectly silent neighbourhood.
Yup, that would be me.
My neighbours must love me.

Doesn’t plaster take months to dry properly?
-
• #305
Maybe?!
Painter is already here and has declared it dry enough to be painted... so maybe the difference is just that, whether the surface is dry enough.
-
• #306
Ok fair enough, I’m no expert - just seen various chats in the DIY thread about it.

Plaster apparently does take months to dry properly, but who is going to plaster a room then wait a couple of months to decorate?

Day 10
Mist coat? Is that what he said?! I think so... a mist coat. 50/50 white paint and water to prep the plaster to take paint.

That white thing hanging from the wall is the Nest HeatLink. It's going to be placed on top of the cabinets out of view, but also with a line of sight for the radio down the length of the house. Where it used to be didn't help it get through brick and stained glass, so this will help it be more reliable.
This is the one future quirk... some plumber in the future will wonder where the hell the control wiring for the boiler is, and the answer will be "on the cupboard behind you, duh!".

mist coat aye. new plaster is super absorbent - don't want it soaking up all your expensive paint...

He's certainly mist a bit around the pipes.

I get the impression that the bits very obviously behind cabinets is considered OK not to finish to the same quality. It's the first bit where I've had a hint that the builder may be human after all.

I doubt I would have if it hadn't been that everything else was delayed. My understandng is that lime render is particularly sensitive to drying

its also about costs, at least in my view. Wouldn't you be pissed if painting behind the cabinets was the reason you had to fork out extra on a new tin on paint?

also it's not like in germany, where you take the whole kitchen with you when you leave. no one will ever see it

It was just a homophone joke guys.

Living in Germany and find this so very strange.

no your a homophone

Not a choice I made... one the builder and plumber made for me (they're taking care of a lot of the details).
But agreed, now I look at it I'm glad it's there https://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/products/accessories/directory/greenstar-system-filters

Did you get the Bosch boiler too?
-
• #324
Yeah, this one, the Greenstar CDi Compact 28 https://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/products/boilers/directory/greenstar-cdi-compact
Chosen because:
- Pretty efficient
- Highly rated by plumbers and easy to get spares
- Works great with the gas pressure (medium) and water flow (high) here
- Didn't need to go high powered (28Kw/h is good enough) as the hob is induction, oven is electric... so it's just a few radiators and then hot water
- It's small enough to fit in a slim cabinet
- Pretty efficient

My boiler got turned on today. House has heating for first time since March. Plumber was well impressed with the boiler - slightly diff to yours but same brand.
A better view of the floor now I've mopped it a few times and cleared the dust.
It's a natural finish, not polished. Chosen because the skylight would reflect constantly otherwise.
