Yeah, this is what I thought was the case, but it seems that even for a 'gift' that's value is over €700, you'll get hit with some charges

I think legally you should declare that you are importing the bike and pay charges even if you ride it on and off the ferry.

Passport control at airports have queuing areas paid for by the airport users. Why shouldn't truck drivers pay for where they queue? Perhaps it should be a flat rate facility charge rather than per hour but I still think it should be paid for by the truck drivers using it.

I think you’d be ok. Technically you’ll be committing tax evasion, but we won’t tell anyone.

Company where my partner works ordered a testing rig from an English company.
So GB to NI post.
Stuck in customs for a week now due to missing documents...

Wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing some Boris Johnson statues in West Belfast at this rate ;)
-
• #29010
LOL!
And the statue is dancing hand in hand with a statue of Arlene Foster :P
It just gets to show how unclear it is for companies, as they did use a courier. So that's a week delay on a project, but hey ho, I am sure they can send Mr "fuck business" the bill.

The Turing programme to replace Erasmus only gives help to UK students wanting to study abroad...not to mainland EU students wanting to study here.
Typical! NI unis still have Erasmus access thanks to Ro Ireland who pay for it. Brits as well, I don't know if you are not NI born if moving to study here gives you Erasmus access, but perhaps it's a route for some.

Having been promised the world, the fishing industry is protesting in Westminster. Be careful what you vote for and what you believe!!

I recently sold a few bits on eBay and I can confirm that posting to Belfast is a pain in the arse, with customs declarations required, three invoices, and a requirement to find the tariff code.
I'm not sure I've done it right, the potential is there for this to go horribly wrong, and I will be making a note in future auctions that for low value stuff it is not worth my while doing so (goes for anywhere outside the non-EU UK zone).

'Global Britain' is starting to feel more 'This is a local shop for local people'.

I have received parcels from eBay via Royal Mail, no checks done. No declarations on parcel.
Strange eBay doesn't make this easier if they make you stick to the rules.
You are right it's not worth it for small parcels.
Down south will send to here but there is less choice compared to UK.

It's pretty amazing. It's taken the govt four years to negotiate the destruction of that industry and only two weeks in those that advocated for it are already protesting it. I'm quite not sure what the fishermen are expecting - some better terms from the EU before they go out of business in six months? Or some form of state aid (I guess that's the only thing they can hope for). I rather suspect that the govt interest in fishing has been saturated for the next couple of years tbh.
The fishing industry voted (90%?) for brexit, they even took to the high seas to heroically battle Bob Geldof for it. They're all adults, I've relatively little sympathy that they'll have to deal with the consequences the same way as the rest of us.
I’m not sure you would have to pay import charges anyway - it’s already your bike, there’s no transfer or money or asset. Check local rules for shipping personal effects.
