if they're long pull that would be great
Just checked and they are short pull :( Sorry.
Though I did use Sram SS levers and Avid long pull V brakes on my Day one for near 2 years and they worked fine!
Just had to always have a true wheels and brakes set up very well!

rippp,
i believe it is possible just my mechanic skills are lacking and i need something robust
weighing it up last night making nice chickpea curry (tombase, simple masala, coconut oil heavy and sweet potato cooked till smooth)
my options are
1) order a half link and a ht2 bb tool, try to set up the brake with a shorter chain and if that doesn't work, make it fixed and forget about it for a good period of time, mv bike should be here in in the future anyway (got a v exciting picture of a box of piping over the weekend)
maybe do a slow part acquisition, nice levers (some fancy cane creeks? dia compe?) and brakes (nice xt v's? learn how to v brakes?), bars (noodles??), new tyres (something slicker? road focused?) get a caradice for it, like a mini lht
2) take one last pass at it, order some tektro long pulls, generic 44cm bars, cotton tape, new cables and some cheap tektro vbrakes, just get it working
i think no1 is more attractive now i brake it down like this, i have some strapped pedals if it needs to be fixed which would look fitting, and although i hate riding fixed there are less hills here than Manchester at least, would also make the 5 mile spins a bit more engaging

i did option one, i feel SO powerful
also the final mv build bits as the man came to collect the rims and hubs to build today, i answered the door in a haze, honestly monday, 9am, i'd just logged onto see everything had broke over the weekend and the door goes.
i think i spoke words??
finally settled on some cheap and cheerful continental doublefighters in 29x2" for the bike, as i assume it will be somewhat dry by the time i get it

mr TvH offered me some lovely parts btw which will be swanning their way to me soon,
update on the custom bike, i've received some initial photos, I'm under a STRICT visual NDA so will have to describe them for you here, i know you sicko's love hearing details from overly demanding customers.
the first decision was how about the chain stay, currently it's sitting somewhere between Raleigh clunker and lht, i've pushed back on this, literally, hoping to have something a bit more forward thinking, think surly big dummy.
finally the paint, we're thinking a natural process, washed once, maybe placing it in the clyde for a week to pick up some natural patina, like a Scottish mash work.

we're thinking a natural process, washed once,
Makes sense that the description of this bike is now using wanky coffee terminology. I personally think you should push for a carbonic maceration, anaerobic ferment process, highly controlled, dusted with a fine clay powder and left to sit for 48 hours at a set temperature.

it's a good thing i got deore, the burrs on grx are atrocious, no precision and seem to wear out under even casual weekend use, not to mention the finish? terrible,

went to install the half link last night and it looked like it would work, right up until the brake tension screw decided to give up? just stripped then and there.
so i guess i now have to buy the replacement part? either way will not be doing that for a bit,
in the week my ht2 tool arrived so i could install my 22t cog onto this wheel and set it up fixed, it rides quite nice now really, except for the free wheel clicking once a revolution, guess i buy a tool to take this off too???!?
for now though, shall stay as it is, operation "have one bike" has been concluded and noted as a failure, what you need is one bike which is ready to ride when you need to go somewhere, and one bike you can break and leave it broken till you can bare looking at it again...
and one bike you can get out on nice days
oh and one you can get out on bad days
then of course you need another when you want to ride.....

just got a pic of the tubes slotted together for the homersimpson bike
feel giddy, it looks exactly like what i was after and it's not even got the real feature pieces on yet!
big shout outs to @M_V somehow turning my terrible drawings into a bike, would recommend to all looking to design something fun, functional and very good looking

wheels for the bike are built, they look the right side of nodder imo.
if you're looking at them and thinking "damn those look heavy as fuck", you'd be right.

thank you for the kind words all!

Nice looking pomp!
If you are bored and have a soldering tool you could cut the cable of the dynamo wire so it runs straight behind the fork, then you can cut two or three thin strips of old tube to hold the wires in place. It's a bit cleaner than the barber pole approach and the black tubes will nearly disappear in the black of the fork. I only suggest this as a lockdown project as it's already looking good
Kinda like this

Your choice of where to fit the one mudflap you own only highlights further what a considerate human you are

Unless the front one just fell off

I won't think any less of you

thank you!
is this the time to admit i spent about an hour painstakingly wrapping that cable around my fork to emulate the dynamo greats before me? under heavy influence of mr radavist and blueluggington, in which the cable would be neatly wrapped around a fork leg, a form of showmanship/ conspicuous consumption to say "ah yes, my lights? self powered", but also a nod to other cable wrappers to say "i see you, i hear you, i also spend too long on the internet thinking about how it should look, as opposed to riding it".
a poser at heart,
lovely build on the condor the guard fitment is impressive!
-
• #222
Cause I'm only wee the toe overlap meant I kept kicking the front flap and it wore out and started getting sucked up into the guard. I haven't "got around" to replacing it yet
All credit to SBC who showed me the tube trick.
