  • round two! just the brazing remaining.

i also removed the lame excuses for bearings that truvativ put in that %!*# gxp system.. no more spacer, no more creaking!

  • we have clearance, clarence!

  • Nice - now to weld an oval-shaped bit back in to the curve?

  • obvs :) some filing and all the metalwork is finished so i can move on to brazing (the coupler isn’t fixed either)

  • some alignment issues to take care of, but it seems to be working. also, a great excuse to add another tool to the collection :)

  • so this has been completed. brazed the coupler and the chainstay, threw the gripshift out and installed a tt lever using an ebay special clamp and tube.

  • That's really cool, great job :)

  • Are you still brazing frames with silver ?
Would you have some pictures somewhere?
Did you place the coupler high up on the seat stay, to avoid any high stress areas?

  • ta

@Midi - i used silver for this frame to avoid distortion (lower temps). what kind of pics are you after? i wanted to place the coupler in the middle (the least stressed part of the tube), but the taper starts around the middle, so i went a bit higher, to the lowermost section of the straight part

  • Thank you for your answer,
I'd like to see how it looks on the bigger junctions,
    head tube,
    bottom bracket.
I never imagined there could a difference visually before.

  • i'll try to dig the completed front triangle out, but i don't think you should be asking me.. i just cook/burn stuff together in the shed, there are a lot of talented people on here who know much more and their work is way nicer :)

but there's something in the pipeline that'll make me practice.. :)

  • I d rather see normal people tinker,
and see what I could expect if I ever had a go at building a frame.

You're way ahead, keep going sir.

  • aaand it's done. new bartape - although not a perfect match, it suits the bike, me thinks. also, gf likes it, so i'm happy.

  • So cool, great job!

  • miters came out good, the tubes just didn't want to stay together. also, some might think it's overkill, but this baby don't ask questions. it just cuts. :D

  • That’s a magnificent drill press.

  • Wow

  • @Tijmen - haha, it is indeed a nice piece of kit

down and seat tubes got closer together and the chainstays got the treatment too
