You sound the same as me, I ride a 53cm steamroller and it's fine, the geo looks pretty much the same as the 52cm crosscheck apart from the headtube which is about 10cm smaller, so thinking 54cm maybe kinder to the old back.

I could probably ride the 54 quite happily but all the surly’s are so low no matter what size you choose you end up with a mega stack. Plus @Cupcakes gave me a great deal...

I’m just shy of 5’ 10”, apparently shrinking. 90 mm stem on, I tend to like a fairly short reach. Interesting the reach numbers don’t seem to rocket up on the cross check.
