Thanks guys. I managed to rubber mallet mallet it back on in the end and after 5 miles it feels fine.
Splines on the axle are fine from what I can tell. Am assuming the metal they use for the axle is stronger than the arms.
Have got a replacement just to be sure and as there's good chance it might get worse. £30 for whole new chainset minus big ring was too good not too.
