Note missing cable adjusters - something I'm working to resolve currently.
-
• #33
Right, I know I said the frames should stay together...
But if it does come to it, I'll get in line to take the CSi pending it being 57x57, price and cable adjusters being resolved.

Naval brass - £300 for 12 feet. I might use standard brass, unless any metallurgists know a good reason why I have to use naval brass for this application?

Have you tried contacting this guy on The Paceline? He might have some more left or be willing to make some more.

I spoke to him last night, he made the ones pictured in 2009 but is checking to see if he has any left (that he can find).

Have you tried Mac @ coolplanetbikesvt / Serotta Parts and Spares?

Before you sink hundreds of pounds in to this I'm pretty sure an m5 brass nut and half an hour with a file would give you something perfectly serviceable. I know this isn't your style though and look forward to seeing what madness ensues as you go about recreating it as per the original drawing.

I've got a quote for 20 nuts, from standard brass, for £85. This is why I'm wondering if there's a reason why these were specified in Naval brass originally, or whether the normal stuff will do.
It would set my mind at rest to have a bag of these in my toolbox.

Maybe I'm thick, but what's the naval brass for? To make the missing cable adjusters for the CSi?
Maybe try hypnosis to unlock the memory of where you put the originals?

There must be a more reasonable way than £85 for some cable adjuster mounts (or is it the actual cable adjuster?)
When I bought it it was missing the tiny brass plate that slots into the recessed part of the frame, it was these that I needed to source from Serotta & were only expensive because shipping was extortionate & I was then charged customs & handling on the price of part + shipping. Think it ended up being ~£70

I don’t think £85 for 20 is bad value, it will mean I can help other people out in future who have the same issue.

Hey Dammit
I'll take both bikes. However, I'll look to sell the road one as I simply don't need it. I just wanted to be open about my intentions as to avoid any future forum attacks. If anyone wants to take the road bike simultaneously I'm happy to work out a price.

If it’s the entire adjuster then certainly more reasonable, had it in my head that it was the tiny brass plate only that was missing as that’s what had happened to me

Mentioned a similar perspective up the thread, PM me and we can discuss :-)

Brass, like other alloys, comes in a range of versions with each version exhibiting a different set of properties. Navel brass, as the name implies, has a very high seawater resistance due to the higher copper content .. more expensive. I'd guess Serotta spec'd it being risk adverse, given Serotta's US customer base, to actions for seized adjusters.
Glws .. Sure these won't be here long.

Kirk is OG Serotta builder if it makes any difference.

Used the Donohue adjusters on my old Legend Ti - worked a charm, very nice quality.

^ and ^^ It's the nut that fits into the frame that is the issue, I've got a bag of those adjusters from Donhou from when baggage handling broke one on my red CSi.
