  • Actually wearing a watch today...

Itching for something new, but it's just pointless.

  • It might be in the super light super safe thread.

  • Sat there wishing it was a time machine. 😎

  • might be in the super light super safe thread.

I wondered who would say that.

  • Thanks @Howard it’s a Zenith El Primero 03.2040.400/22.C496

  • Love the Aerospace!

Was a very nice slightly battered Breitling with a really uncluttered dial on here a couple of days ago, not sure if it was an Avenger or Chronomat......

    G-Shocked and self-isolating today.....

  • I like that, which model is it please?

  • Lovely to see this getting worn, I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I do feel a little pang each time I see it, this piece and a few others have been quite special in my collecting journey.

  • Some outstanding watches on show this week. Lufguss is really upping its game. Bravo @Detritus @Regal @JonoMarshall @goodhead @underuser53929 @Dramatic_Hammer @pullingteth

  • You modd a fake, with real parts? For what purpose?

A while ago I was browsing that forum. It's such a mad little sub-hobby.

I'd liken it to the way this forum used to put NJS parts on old converted road frames.

Some of also seems like buying say a Rolex over time, so in the end you end up with a "real" frankenwatch. A bit like starting out with a Fuji track then upgrading every part until you ultimately upgrade the frame.

Also using fake parts like dials allows you to do thinks like faux age, which you wouldn't want to do with an original.

But given expensive watches aren't rational, and most hobbies aren't rational beyond 'cause I enjoy it, it' s not that crazy.

  • I guess it's like an old hammer has had 6 new handles and 3 new heads, is it still your old hammer...

But OK. Your description is good. Thanks.

Sounds like something @Regal would like 😂

Speaking about modding , made me Watch this again. Makes me want to copy it. Not going to happen though!

  • Like Trigger's Sugababes of Theseus?

I was looking at one of the Seiko mod places a while back and saw that they do dial blanks (and plain colours). I am half tempted to have a go at something! Though dial printing to any standard is tough, you kind of have to do the pad printing technique to get rid of the screenprinting "grid" on the small text.

    @freddo cheers chap!

  • I have a fake 16600 I’ve thrown ludicrous amounts of time and money at. So far, new ETA2824, genuine date wheel, genuine crown. I am on the hunt for genuine hands and the holy grail is deadstock dial 🤪

  • Like Trigger's Sugababes of Theseus

I was thinking more along the lines of Terry Pratchett's Discworld version, but sure... Let's say its the original Greek classic rather.

Really? Pics? Interesting! You kept that quiet when @hugo7 mentioned it! 😂

How's it going? What's the reason behind it? Is it worth it?

  • I just saw the post, I am sure I’ve posted it here before. A mate got me into it. He’s got a decent rolex collection and mods fakes as a hobby. The 16600 replica is a good base for a novice because it’s cheap, decent quality with a solid movement. Nah course it’s not worth it, it’s a money pit and you can buy a better watch like a seiko for way cheaper 😂

  • The centre of the hour hand looks a bit different? But what are the other differences to a real one? Do people mind servicing it?

  • The divers extension in the clasp is junk, with a loupe or zoom in you can see the edges of the hour markers are slightly too sharp and the lume is a bit messy. Lume on hands don’t match perfectly. But it’s pretty close overall.

  • Love watching these mod videos.
Here’s my first attempt at modding, a little Explorer homage. Case and movement are from an old Seiko 7005. I think it turned out pretty well, the hardest part is installing the hands, took hours to get them seated properly.

  • These https://www.bartonwatchbands.com/collections/quick-release-soft-silicone-rubber-watch-bands-straps

I love Barton but I'm not waiting 6 months for a strap that costs a zillion bucks. Fuck that for a laugh.

  • That looks good! Nice homage!

  • Some of the colours are £19.50 with free next day delivery on *mazon pr*me.
