Clearly they're already planning for August and the Edinburgh Festival. Unsurprisingly, outside drinking isn't mainstream in January

1,564 more deaths added to the total :-(

I had a covid test done in catford and the result back as negative in less an hour.

On the plus side cases are 7% down on previous 7 days so it's starting to feel more real that we are just over the cases hump.
-
• #19835
I'm not so sure, there's an awful lot of patients going to hospital with it. And an awful lot of people who are dead within 28 days of their test.

In molesworth car park?

I read it as over the "cases" (as in positive test results) peak.
Next is the "hospitalisations" peak 1-3 weeks after that.
Then the deaths peak 2-3 weeks after that.

• #19838
Even if we were in a super strict 3 week lockdown, which should slash infection rates, lifting it at that time when we are at a peak of deaths wouldn't look so good, even if very few people have it any more.
-
• #19839
Yeah, I'm still not sure we're past the peak of anything.

All those people dying don't seem to have got the memo that we really have to avoid round figures, they look terrible in the press:
Gabriel Scally, a visiting professor of public health at the University of Bristol and a member of the Independent Sage group of experts, said the 100,000-plus death toll was an indictment of the way the pandemic had been handled.
“It is an astounding number of preventable deaths from one cause in one year, [an] absolutely astounding number. It’s a sign of a phenomenal failure of policy and practice in the face of this new and dangerous virus,” Scally said.

100,000 deaths. Just horrible.

The number of new hospital admissions has been falling for a few days but total hospital/icu numbers will probably lag 5-10 days behind that. Needless to say it’s a fucking disaster all round. Can’t wait for boris to eventually be exonerated by the enquiry in 2036.

It is done in the catford civil centre

The amount of people hanging around outside and queueing up at the Brew Dog on Lothian Rd. (Black Cat, Rose Street & Albanach, Royal Mile also) surprised me. Why pay pub prices when you can get a tinny out the shop?

Do NHS ICU/bed occupancy ratios get published anywhere?

Got my test result back - negative. Thank fuck for that. Freedom! To go nowhere! Yay!
I am relieved...(I kind of knew it was just asthma, but still...)

If there is a reduction- I suspect we're in a minor dip related to the 'tightening' pre-Christmas.
Some hospitals are utilising a virtual ward system- with home pulse oximeters and a team dedicated to reviewing these over a period of time, with appropriate treatment being given OOH.
I'm not sure if these will count as 'admissions' under the stats- but if so- expect a massive rise as this becomes a more utilised pathway- not necessarily reflective of a worsening in status. In either case- I suspect we've got a second peak in this 'wave' to come over the next fortnight, with the inevitable follow on of admissions and deaths thereafter.
To continue my general grim predictions-by Easter we will see evidence of vaccine/ antigenic escape in a variant.

I hope I'm wrong. -

As someone said to me “it’s funny how a Marks&Spencers can of gin&tonic on the train is socially acceptable but a can of Special Brew on the bus isn’t “
Street drinking has a class structure -
