Some good reflection here https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/jan/12/australian-conservatives-go-to-extraordinary-lengths-to-deny-the-reality-of-rightwing-extremism
Morrison's never been elected, and with the mood in the global arena swinging against trumpism it might well be that he won't get another term. That said, the opposition guy doesn't strike me as someone that captures the imagination of the voters either.

From my casual observer viewpoint and being there in the last elections, I think it's rare to see so many uninspiring politicians. It's almost like a political class was created when the UK was in charge that was so locally/personally focused that they've given up on bigger picture/greater good politics. There's so much banana republic stuff going on when you read the papers there that it's mad. Either that or they look at politicians from yesteryear, decide those guys were popular and spout/do the same stuff that seemed progressive or just normal 30 years ago.
An Australian politician who is a bit racist playing to the racist element in the country? Surely not.
That article is a trove of awesome politician bollocks though.. like this one:
Wonder how Morrison is going to go when Biden moves into the WH if he's saying crap like that. Probably about as well as Boris.
