I was kinda tempted by the idea of a light(ish) dualie but the thought of shock setup and maintenance as well as the lack of bag space for longer stuff put me off, hence the hardtail direction.
You could get something like @amey 's Procaliber, which has a bit more comfort built in, without the maintenance requirements of full sus
My priority is descending with as many bones in one piece as possible.

Less "gnar", more "far". I need to keep more of an eye on the second hand market I guess. I like the idea of another steel bike but there's a lot of carbon xc stuff around too.
