  • I'm really struggling with the 10 min format. I run through some permutations in my head for a crucial turn and end up using so much time I have to blitz the rest of the game. Keep losing with stupid blunders.

    The longer tournament games were much better.

  • Just try and keep an eye on your opponents time and not take too much longer on your move than they do.

    Obviously don't go nuts tho if they a firing moves mega quick. You want to take a bit of time to get a sound opening but at the same time try to save your seconds for the later stages.

    It's hard in our tournaments where there is quite a discrepancy between ratings because more experienced players will simply be quicker. Try playing outside the tournament though with matches around your own rating and you may grow to like them. You learn a lot by playing more games and looking back afterwards at the mistakes you made. Try not to worry about losing either.

    Daily games are good, but you can pour over the analysis board forever which I don't actually think is a good habit.

    Sorry - unsolicited advice, just an opinion. I prefer the quick games
