I don’t think anyone denies the aesthetics. But once you’re in, the question of how deep is real, because at some point the trajectory of depth and aesthetics diverge. This is the moment when aero becomes the primary consideration, followed by scenes in Romford.
I’m not putting this argument forward as evidence of my sanity.
FYI, I think my position is fairly well aero optimised and my helmet straps NEVER flap.

Deeper is almost always faster. If the goal is speed, go deep.
I rode Light Bicycle U 65mm across the US and Europe so they work (pain to handle in the wind though). No idea how they actually stack up against Enve, Zipp, etc in terms of aerodynamics but there was no way I was putting £££ on my ultra bike anyway.
If you're concerned with those 28s there are probably better ways to get them back. Most people under typically levels of 'which wheel' forum interrogation eventually crack and reveal the truth to be "I want them because they look cool" :)
