Just use extenders and pack one of those tiny plastic tools to remove them in your bag, never had a problem.
Also comes handy to borrow shallow valve tubes in an emergency and remove valve cores if the valve breaks.
I have one of those in my bag for tubeless bikes and have plenty I could chuck into my road kit, which includes superpatches. All stays on the bike, so missing those bits isn’t a concern unless my saddle pack were to fall off.
