  • these are the cork tiles we have - they're seriously class http://www.granorte.pt/en/products/naturals/champagner-sand

  • Maybe irrelevant, but we recently had an EICR done on our flat and upstairs lighting circuit is the original 2 wire with no earth. No one seems to care as long as you know that you can only use class 2 fixtures.

What the electrician did point out is that in our flat (Hackney ex LA), they intentionally used metal conduit which will act as an earth.

  • Maybe use the stop cock to replace the isolation valve which should be a quick job (assuming decent access).

  • Yeah, I'd considered that. Definitely easy enough to get at but I'd still risk being a bastard neighbour if it took longer for any reason.

  • Ohhhh are they the ones that used an IKEA kitchen and just replaced the handles? I’m all in for spending less but honestly struggling to find any square pale pink tiles anywhere else but claybrooke. Topps appear incapable of sending a sample.

  • Unfortunately the stop cock affects the flat downstairs.

    Whaaaaat

  • Is this a corkboard pun, or am I just overcorking things?

  • Thanks, that’s a good idea.
It’s not just this single issue - they have been picky about stuff and we’re concerned that they’ll keep complaining.

  • `Thanks - our house is a 1960 ex LA-built place so it sounds similar.

  • Aye isolation valves are all cheap shite these days they never last.

In regards to affecting the flat down stairs, I’d go chap the door and say I’m gonna do some work the water will be off for an hour they should be ok with that if not. Make up some excuse you had a burst pipe and had to switch it off to fix it 🤷🏻‍♂️ But realistically there’s something not right if the water stop cock shuts off water to both flats for the mains.

  • It's a converted terrace so the stop cock would've been installed for the house originally, it's in the cellar.

Thames Water wanted to install meters a couple of years ago but gave up when they couldn't figure out where the supply for upstairs diverged.

  • Makes sense then, I’d just go chap the door as I said then.

  • A fatter pipe won't help much with water pressure (unless your feed is massively obstructed), it will help with flow. If you have low pressure there aren't many nice options - header tank and pump is I think basically it.

  • I would be tempted to say something like:
‘The house is X years old and we have kept on top of maintenance during our time here and carried out X works in line with relevant regs at the time, if you want the house it costs £X - the price reflects the location, size, style and condition. We are not able to complete until our chain completes on X date.’

They’ve fucked their housing situation and are trying to make it your problem.

  • I like woodchip wallpaper. I think it's going to make a come back.

  • Stuff of absolute nightmares to remove

  • this, they seem to want to get the house for PRICE - cost_of_making_property_like_new

  • Don’t get the cork tile hate

Isn't it just age? Boomers remember them from the first time they were around and can't get over how old that makes them feel. See also lino, terrazzo, mid-century furniture, houseplants, dreamcatchers, hippy bead curtains etc.

  • We were looking at them for the front path but maybe could use on the wall?

Actually whilst I’m typing I think they are unglazed

  • My girlfriend likes big bunches of grasses like pampas grass in vases , which my mum thinks is really naff and 70’s

  • My folks and friends, find my OH's love of gplan odd. But then I remember my granny turning her noise up a Victorian furniture.

  • What would an insurance company normally ask for when repairing the flat below after a leak? Images of the damage and a few written quotes?

  • Ohhhh look food, no idea of cost though?

  • Also why old people like glass and chrome - as different as possible from the floral print everything they grew up with
