TBH I think it's pointless. The Republicans will delay it long enough to get past the inauguration no matter what and then they'll use it as a stick to beat the Democrats with for the next 4 years. They'd be better off tying him up in civil and criminal cases after he's left the White House.
-
• #14278
I think this (in my ignorance). It seems like posturing. Now the Dems control the committees I'd hope they could investigate him to death.

1) loses his 200k+ pension for the rest of his life
2) loses his 1 million dollar/year travel allowance
3) loses lifetime full secret service detail
4) loses his ability to run in 2024 "The fucker gets all that after he leaves office?!! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!
-

Mil a year travel allowance? I might even be tempted by a new bike (or NOS anyway)

Of course it’s worth to impeach him. It’d be even better if they can lock him and his cronies up until they die.
Ted Cruz is equally as guilty as other GOP members that stood by and defended the indefensible.
Personally I can understand why Biden is comparing them to the Nazis, what else is there left to compare them to when there were numerous Auschwitz, SS, 6MWNE shirts on display. Half of the people there have not realised that they’re part of a far right militia and got sold a ruse by Trump and his cronies. Lock em up I say.
-
• #14282
Good, apart from the secret service detail. He will be at risk of assassination, and would be surprised if that was taken from him.
-
• #14283
Of course he should be impeached for the sake of history and the US reputation on the world stage. The whole nation is on a knife edge in many ways, including global politics. Maybe America’s global leadership role has already been eroded, but there’s an opportunity to define the last four years as an aberration, here.
-
• #14284
He’s just incited a mob to attempt a coup, it is the opposite of pointless.
-
• #14285
With the inauguration being massively limited in numbers for attendees due to Covid. What’s the bet that the Trump fans ignore this and make big comparisons between Biden and Trump’s crowds?
I’m pretty sure it’s because he’s a petulant child but with my baseless conspiracy hat, could Trump be worried about something kicking off and that’s played into why he wouldn’t want to attend the inauguration?
-
• #14286
There shouldn’t be a mass scale event. Just get the minimum requirement of people there to witness it and televise as usual. There’s not much to celebrate other than the fact that Trump is gone. Let’s just be happy with that for now.

needless to say, poor old Ben Garrison isn't taking this well - his twitter is predictably blowing up
-
• #14288
Oh absolutely. Had been looking into it this morning as I’d hoped it would be reduced. The BBC article I found says they’d usually have 200,000 tickets available but it’s down to around 1000 this year. But I’m doubtful if this will matter to Trump fans who will just claim it’s a small crowd and it’s evidence of yet more election stealing

• #14289
By blowing up did you mean suspended?
-
• #14290
Please stop sharing Ben O G . He’s crap. Whatever his politics he’s one of the worst satirical illustrators ever and he’s a mouthpiece for fuckwittery who thrives of indignation. Just ignore.
-
• #14291
They should 100% limit it to dignitaries for Covid reasons.

From Twitter's statement:
Plans for future armed protests have already begun proliferating on and off-Twitter, including a proposed secondary attack on the US Capitol and state capitol buildings on January 17, 2021.

Hahaha, are you seriously putting forward Mitch McConnell as an example of a Rep senator who puts his country before his person/party?
He's been the key enabler of Trump for the last 4 years.
-
• #14295
I’m not saying you ignore that but I don’t think rushing to an impeachment that has minimal impact is worth as much as the Dems are making out. His supporters will only take encouragement from it as it shows he’s still the enemy of the deep state if they can boot him out of the WH. Tying him up in a decade of expensive civil and criminal cases would have far more impact on his ability to shit stir in future.
-
• #14296
This. He’s absolute scum. The definition of someone putting self interest ahead of that of the country.
-
• #14297
Worth mentioning if you have not seen it.
Trump signed an executive order during the BLM protests that decreed a minimum 10 year federal prison term for vandalism of Federal property.
That crime is a felony.
Felony convictions in the US lose you both the right to vote and the right to own guns. It will show up on background checks, etc.

• #14298
Ooh that is tasty!

I kind of agree with this. Trump is essentially king Troll. Anything beyond an emabarrassed retreat would be weaponised. That’s how trolls and their followers operate. Out with a whimper to a purgatory of penalisation I’d what I wish upon him and his cabal.

What's that my love?!
" For those wondering if it’s worth impeaching him this time, it means he:
1) loses his 200k+ pension for the rest of his life
2) loses his 1 million dollar/year travel allowance
3) loses lifetime full secret service detail
4) loses his ability to run in 2024 "
