• please can someone recommend a flat mtb shoe? Or is it five tens all the way (££)? Got some really nice and sticky burgtec flat pedals, but have been using some adidas trainers.
They're fine - but get shitted up this time of year easily. Might get a separate winter pair of something waterproof for when it's a mud bath? Cheers

  • Had pairs of 5 tens and currently using the Specialized 2FOs

Really impressed with them. Not for winter though as they’re very vented.

Go and check 5 tens out before you buy if you can though as some come with stiff soles and others don’t.
    Stiff soles for the win!

  • @furious_tiles @TotalShanner cheers think I will try some five tens, and then maybe some cheap non vented skate type shoe for winter? If you one of you changes your mind on dammits pair please pass them my way! Would have been perfect. Do they fit true to size? I'll keep my eye for a sale or lightly worn pair

  • Stiff soles for the win!

I also agree with this. I used to wear Adidas sambas for riding as I liked the soft sole and felt that it squished into the pedal giving me a good feel and grip.

But as soon as I rode with the really stiff but very grippy sole of the five tens I seen the error of my ways.

Just to clarify on fit, I find them only just slightly roomy. I can still wear them with normal socks and it's not an issue.
I also wear an 11/eu46 in fiziks and shimano Road and mtb shoes
