They might truly believe that the Republican party might be the best thing for the country.
I can't imagine they think of Trump as a glorious leader, but back him as a route to power. -

I actually think they might finally have doubts that Trump being re-elected in 2024 would be a good thing for the GOP.
It all depends how the next few years ago, if politics in the US does move towards back towards bi-lateral comprise (a big if, I know) then a Trump style candidate might not be what the party wants anyway.
What the GOP really needs right now is a unifying and electable candidate to emerge, and soon. If there is a chasm to fill, Trump knows how to fill it.

Surely if they're self-serving they'd want what is likely to be a strong competitor out of the running though? Like I said above, it's not like they'll piss off the Trump fans so much they'd vote democrat, right?

Some people are worried that the Trumps are going to form their own party and split the vote.
-

But that'll hand the victory to the dems no? Surely even the dullest Trump fan is aware of that
-

Pretty sure they are as thick as they look.
Try educating the idiots in the Capitol about tactical voting... -

Probably but on the other hand there has never been an opportunity greater than this to create a third party in terms of likely support for it. I doubt that the new party would be aiming to win 2024 or even 2028. Their goal would likely be to be the 2nd party by 2028 perhaps.

Depressingly, that doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibility.

Getting owned by the libs to own the other libs who aren't even actual libs?

Has this election cycle been commissioned by Netflix or something. This is fucking madness.

A third party with it's own cable news channel would be a great way to make some money

Trump TV is already in the works isn't it?

You mean Newsmax TV?

Pretty much how I feel on both counts.

Nope

There was a lot of speculation in 2015 and 2016 that his run for presidency was solely for publicity for Trump TV. I think some of the Mueller Report avenues of enquiry looked into his attempted fundraising for it in the Middle East and Russia.

With Joe Biden calling the people who stormed the capitol domestic terrorists will groups like the proud boys be designated a terrorist organisation at some point ?
untimely the FBI will catch up with the people involved and there likely to get some significant jail time. Would Trump been seen as having incited an act of terrorism ?

Doesn't the entire Trump clan need to make a quick getaway
to a country without an extradition treaty with the US?
It also removes a major competitor for the 2024 Republican nominee race for those more ambitious Senators.
