Takes too long, won’t happen, it’s purely for show
From BBC website
Impeachment
If the vice-president fails to act, Mrs Pelosi has indicated she would convene the House to launch their second impeachment proceedings against Mr Trump.
The president has already been impeached over allegations he sought help from Ukraine to boost his chances of re-election. The Senate acquitted him of these charges.Mr Trump could become the first president in history to be impeached twice.
For that to happen, impeachment (charges) must be brought to the House and passed in a vote.
The case is then passed to the Senate, where a two-thirds vote is necessary for a president's removal.
This milestone has never been reached in US history and there is no indication the Democrats would get those numbers in the Senate, where they only hold half of the seats.
It's also not clear whether enough time remains to carry out the process. -

Show me OANN baying for his blood.
From my brief dips into Parler today it seems a fairly even split of people either thinking his concession video was a deepfake or that Trump has sold his supporters out or has been blackmailed into backing out of his Q activities.
While you think the Guardian are highly motivated to overstate that angle, I'd contest that OANN are even more highly motivated to understate it.

Its quite an important show imho. Its an opportunity to firmly demonstrate which side of history you want to be on.
It'll pass the house but as of yesterday the thought was that they are about 7 votes short in the senate.

If there are any Trump supporters struggling to unwrap or activate their tasers,
I'm happy to help them taser themselves in the balls. -

Mate have you read the article?

"Parler" is an anagram of "Larper"

I assume that failing to find him guilty at impeachment for the second time will play to his base.

I have this nagging feeling that, despite the fact that those storming the Capitol are clearly moronic, conspiracy-theory cultist loons, if you really felt like an election was being stolen then that is what you should do. Clearly there's no basis for the underlying claims, but once you've got to the point of actually believing them, then what action should you take?
It's a bit like religion. Lukewarm religion makes no sense (although it's nice to be nice). If you really believe that eternal life or eternal damnation await then you absolutely should be out there shouting at people on the street through a megaphone.

Now he has lost they can kill any 2024 run by him with an impeachment, so the other Repub nut jobs now have an incentive to nail him to the wall.

Yeah, but if they do, they'll face the wrath of the people that'll ultimately vote for them.

As a side note, can you imagine how many civil defamation cases will be coming Trump's way after the 20th?!
-
• #14169
With a 2 party system, it's not like doing that will push them over to voting for democrats, right? They'll still be firmly in the republican camp.
-
• #14170
IIRC impeachment proceedings can bar you from future public office on a simple majority vote*, which would put the kibosh on a 2024 run for Trump?
*I don't think you have to have been removed from office for this to apply.

I imagine they might well just stay in their camps in the woods.

Not to mention liability claims from the families of people who died at the Capitol.
His legal issues as a private citizen are already huge but this puts them into the stratosphere.

I know this is just completely batshit crazy, but are any republican senators actually considering what might be best for the country? Surely they can agree that removing him from office now and stopping the crazy fucker from running in 2024 would actually be the best thing for the US of A. Or am I just being a stupid commie?

You realise you just typed that out loud?

You have failed to appreciate what a bunch of self serving cunts they are. None have a genuine concern for what is best for their country.
From The Guardian. Highly motivated to overstate that angle.
