  • I find YouTube is best experienced with youtube-dl and some wrappers.

  • I'm using Vanced Tube just now

  • I wish I could get rid of Facebook but as I'm in the UK it's the easiest way to keep in touch with my friends and a couple family members back in NZ although I have slimmed down to actual friends and am in the process of removing following of things that aren't something that are relevant to me in this current time.

  • I find it quite surprising to the extent that the Republicans are staying loyal to Trump, and that toeing the party line remains standing behind his madness and bullshit, even after all the legal challenges are over and the game is clearly up.

As self-serving continuity types, I kind of expected them to distance themselves from him and pretend they didn't spinelessly prop him up for the last 4 years. Surely it's damaging to the traditional Republican image.

Terrifying to think that it's likely because the crazy Trumpists now outnumber the (already awful) traditional Republicans and it's their best strategy.

  • They're not loyal to Trump.

They're just appearing loyal to him because their entire base is now Trump supporters. Appearing disloyal to Trump means losing all the nutcases that vote because of him.

The big problem for them is how they engage these voters should Trump disappear from politics.

  • The House won't reconvene until inauguration - does that mean they're bottling the chance to impeach? (we know the Reps won't invoke the 25th)

  • So only people who can afford to pay for posting content get a platform?

    That would go well.

  • Out of curiosity did you hold these same feelings during the Arab spring?

  • The fact that Parler exists means that even if Facebook and Twitter cleaned up thier act there are still places people can go to spew vile hate.

  • Tbf no one who grows a beard and shaves their neck should be trusted. The very worst kind of people.

  • the difference is that parler exists in a vacuum of right wing chuddery, and as such, is devoid of any opportunities to "pwn teh libz" - a core motivation for nearly all of these fuckwits. it's not long for this world.

  • The fact that Parler exists means that even if Facebook and Twitter cleaned up thier act there are still places people can go to spew vile hate.

Parler have been ramping up their moderation and censorship in recent weeks. They are not exempt from the same legal jeopardy as Twitter and Facebook etc deespite what many people say.

  • I did have my suspicions.

  • The only benefit of impeachment is that it means Trump can't run in 2024 I think.

Could they really impeach within two weeks anyway?

  • No. I was an absolute moron in 2011.

  • Under some models you don't have to pay evenly or at all, as long as users on the whole pay.

I believe lfgss is mostly paid for by members. I've donated in the past but probably a lot less than others for example. Some have probably never donated which seems fine to me.

  • Post history checks out ;)

I guess I'm just considering how much of this is people I don't like doing stuff. Or possibly and underlying fear of the reality of this happing in a country like mine - rather than what I've been conditioned to expect from "less developed" countries.

We were talking about this, this morning and the whole "if they'd been BLM" point lots are making. Are we just annoyed at the unjustness between the different responses? Or does part of us want to see violence and brutality inflicted on people we don't agree with.

You see a similar thing with the woman who just died that people are framing as a Qanon nut. When many of those same people probably view Lisa Montgomery (who cut a baby out of a mother and kidnapped it) as mentally ill.

  • It's also important to point out that the rioters for the most part seem to genuinely believe that the election was rigged. When viewed in that light most of their actions aren't that out-there.

My point here is that it's important to remember who is responsible here. In particular Trump's enablers - who I personally have not doubt do not believe the election was rigged for a moment.

  • Could they really impeach within two weeks anyway?

They were saying last night it could be done in a few days, whereas 25th could be done straight away.

  • When the looting starts, the shooting starts ... right?

Ooof. That’s the double standard, right there.

  • Did we do this yet? "Hitler was right on one thing" ... speech by newly elected representative.

  • The back of "Camp Auschwitz" guy's t shirt said "Staff".

  • That wasn’t my point, my point was that you would get a greater divide between people who can/want to pay and those who can’t/refuse to pay.

Dickheads with money get more airtime, those without money who have valuable things to say might not.

  • Agree and this is the really scary part. That one can lead astray so many ppl by just claiming bogus stuff for a prolonged period. I guess it would be a lot harder in a state with less missfortuned ppl so its def set by the climate in us where so many feel like they got a rotten deal.

I dont see this going away with trump either. The blueprint is out there. But perhaps it will be a difficult act to follow. Lets hope so anyways.
